Chapter 4: Cracks in the Foundation

1158 Words
The old cabin. Groaned like it was alive and in pain. The storm outside was really hitting it hard. Lilas heart was racing fast as new cracks appeared on the ceiling. Dust and plaster fell down onto the floor. Ethans big hand held hers tight. His body moved between her and the weak beam above. "Kitchen " he said loudly but firmly. "Now." Lila didn't argue. She grabbed a toolbox and some flashlights. She followed him to the kitchen area. The walls there felt thicker and stronger. The wind outside howled like a spirit. It rattled the windows. Blew snow through every small gap. The temperature had dropped sharply again. Their breath was visible in the light from the fire. Ethan crouched down. He used his hands to check where the walls met the floor. His hair was messy from sleep and earlier. His bare chest still had some sweat on it. He was thirty-eight. Moved like a man who had built many strong structures. He looked worried. "It's the roof and the foundation " he said to himself. "This old place wasn't built for storms like this. We need to fix it and here—" He pointed to some key spots. ". The whole living room could collapse." Lila nodded. She rolled up her sleeves even though it was cold. "Tell me what you need. I'm not helpless Ethan. We're in this together." Her voice was bright and determined. He looked up at her. Something warm and loving was in his eyes. "You're amazing you know that? Most people would be panicking. Not my Lila." They worked together for a while. Ethan lifted beams. Lila held a flashlight. Handed him tools. Their bodies touched a lot in the space. Every touch sent sparks through her. As they worked they talked. Lila asked, "Why the cabin? Why did my brother really call you?" Ethan. Said honestly "Because I never stopped caring Lila. I followed your writing. I read every book. Your stories hurt in a way. I wanted to give you an ending." Lilas throat felt tight. She touched his arm. "I wrote those endings hoping reality would catch up.. You vanished, Ethan. Eight years of wondering if that kiss meant anything to you." He turned to face her. "It meant everything. That night… I wanted you badly. Still do.. I was drowning back then. I thought I'd ruin your life. I was wrong." Lila stepped into his space. She wrapped her arms around his waist. "Then stop punishing yourself. We're here now. Trapped,. Together." Ethans arms held her strong and sure. He buried his face in her hair. "Never again Lila. You're stuck with this old architect." They kept working but with renewed energy. They even laughed. By the time they fixed the problems their bodies ached, but the cabin felt safer. Exhausted they collapsed onto a rug in front of the fireplace. Ethan pulled her into his lap. The fire warmed them. Outside the storm continued. "You’re freezing " Ethan said. His hands rubbed circles on her back. "Let me take care of you." Lila turned to straddle him. She cupped his jaw. "I need more than warmth Ethan. I need to feel connected to you. Make love to me again." His dark eyes flared with hunger and love. "Always baby." The kiss started slow and tender but quickly ignited. Ethans hands roamed her body with care. Lila arched into him. He groaned at the sight. He. Licked her n*****s. Lila gasped. His fingers parted her folds. He circled her c**t before sliding inside her. The foreplay was long and nice. Ethan took his time. He explored every inch of her. He kissed down her stomach. He removed her clothes. He shed his layers. Lila reached for him. She wrapped her hands around his length. "I love how you feel " she whispered. "So big. So hard for me." Ethan hissed in pleasure. "Only for you, Lila. Always." He laid her back on the rug. He spread her thighs wide. His mouth descended between her legs. Lila shattered with a cry. He didn't stop until she was boneless and panting. Then he rose. He positioned himself at her entrance. "I love you " he said again. "Never stopped." "I love you too " she replied. He thrust forward burying himself in one stroke. They both groaned at the fit. Ethan moved with controlled power. His hands framed her face. He kissed her through every moan. "Feel me, Lila. Every inch. This is us." The pace quickened. Hips snapped harder. He hooked one of her legs, over his shoulder. He ground against her c**t with each thrust. Lila fought back as hard her nails scratching his back. "Hit me harder Ethan. I can handle it. Give me everything.” His control started to slip. It was beautiful. He pushed into her with force pounding deep while saying dirty but loving things. "You’re such a girl. You take my c**k well. This p***y was made for me. It’s mine to love mine to fuck." His thumb found her c**t again rubbing it in circles until she came a second time squeezing him tightly. Ethan came after pushing himself deep into her with a loud groan filling her with hot thick liquid. They stayed connected breathing hard. He rolled them over so she lay on his chest inside her. The way he took care of her was amazing. His big hands stroking her hair back and thighs in soothing patterns. He gave her kisses on her forehead, eyelids and lips. He whispered things reassuring her of his love his commitment and his regret for the years they lost. They talked for a time after that wrapped in blankets by the fire. Ethan opened up about how lonely his successful career was and how no one had ever made him feel the way Lila did. Lila shared her struggles with writing love stories while nursing a broken heart. Their conversation brought them together and their deep affection grew stronger, with every secret they shared and every laugh. The storm didn’t let them have peace for long. As they fell asleep in each other’s arms a loud metallic ping echoed from upstairs followed by a silence. The generator had stopped working. Then new cracks appeared higher on the wall near the reinforced beam. Fresh snow poured in through a growing gap. The foundation groaned again deeper this time as if the mountain itself was shifting. Ethan tensed, sitting up with Lila in his arms. His protective instincts kicked in. "It’s getting worse. We might need to move to the truck ” Lila nodded, holding onto him. Their second chance was burning bright despite the danger. The cabin. And the blizzard. Threatened to extinguish it before it could fully grow. As another violent shudder ran through the structure Ethan held her tighter, ready to fight for their future no matter what.
