Chapter 14

855 Words
With the first rays of sunset, Kembel Palace was transformed. The halls, decorated with flowers and ribbons, shone in the light of candles and chandeliers. Servants bustled about, serving fine food and drinks. The guests gradually arrived, filling the house with whispers of conversation and the clink of glasses. There was an air of anticipation in the air, but also a subtle tension. Ashley watched the preparations with a troubled heart. She tried to smile and keep up the conversation with the guests, but her thoughts kept coming back to George. His eyes, his movements, everything seemed suspicious to her. Ashley couldn't shake the feeling that he was up to something unkind. Travis was also wary. He tried to stay close to his sister, protecting her from possible dangers. His eyes followed George's every step, his every look. Travis knew that the party could be a trap, and he was prepared for any eventuality. George, on the other hand, was the epitome of graciousness and hospitality. He greeted the guests, joked, and engaged in conversations — but at the same time, he never lost sight of Ashley or Travis. There was a faint predatory light in his eyes that didn't escape Robert's attention. He continued his secret observations, trying not to draw attention to himself. Clara tried to stay close to George, even though she was struggling with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, she still loved him and wanted to believe in his sincerity. On the other hand, the suspicions that had crept into her mind were bothering her. She found herself wanting to unravel his true intentions, but she was afraid of what she might find out. Margaret and Thomas tried to maintain the festive atmosphere, but they couldn't quite hide their unease. They could see Travis and Ashley's wary expressions, and George's occasional meaningful glances, and they knew that there was a dark purpose behind their amusement. As тогоthe evening wore on, the tension in the air became more pronounced. The guests were having fun, dancing, and making small talk, but Ashley and Travis couldn't relax. They sensed that danger was near, that George was waiting for the right moment to strike. At one point, Travis went off to discuss something with one of the servants. George took the chance. He went over to the drinks table where Travis's glasswas, and surreptitiously slipped a strong drug into it. His movements were quick and precise — as if he had been rehearsing this moment for a long time. When Travis returned, he picked up his glass and took a sip. At first, nothing happened, and Travis continued to chat with the guests. But gradually, his vision began to blur, his movements became slow, and his speech became slurred. Ashley noticed the change in her brother and was alarmed. She tried to speak to him, but Travis could barely focus on the conversation. George watched with a barely concealed smile. His plan was beginning to take shape. Now that Travis was out of action, he had a chance to be alone with Ashley. He was waiting for the right moment to approach her and use the situation to his advantage. Ashley, meanwhile, was becoming increasingly aware of something amiss. She could see her brother losing his strength, his mind blurring, and she knew it wasn't an accident. She was terrified, but also determined to protect herself and discover George's treachery. Meanwhile, the guests continued to enjoy themselves, oblivious to the growing tension. The palace buzzed with music and laughter, but in the heart of this celebration lurked the shadow of a coming tragedy. Ashley stood at a crossroads, feeling that the fate of the Kembel family hung in the balance, and only her decisions depended on how events unfolded. George waited patiently, ready to strike the final blow. He knew it would be a long night, and that things might change by morning. His eyes were burning with the desire for victory, and he was willing to do anything to achieve his goal. Meanwhile, Clara, tormented by doubts, began to notice strange details in George's behavior. She put together facts that had previously seemed insignificant to her, and gradually realized that her lover was not who he claimed to be. Her heart was torn between love and reason, but the truth was becoming more and more obvious. Robert didn't waste any time either. He could see that Travis was in danger, and he knew he had to act. He approached Ashley's brother cautiously, trying to assess his condition, and a plan was already forming in his mind to help Travis and expose George. The party continued, but the shadow of impending evil was already hanging over the Kembel Palace. No one knew what would happen next, but everyone felt that something irreversible was about to happen. Ashley, Travis, George, Clara, Robert-each of them stood in their own path, which could lead either to victory, defeat, or tragedy. And while the guests were having fun, unaware of the impending danger, the inhabitants of the palace lived in anticipation of the denouement that could change everything.
