Why couldn’t she do this? Things had been going so well and nothing had changed! She had to keep reminding herself of that. Only her perceptions had changed. She just needed to roll with it until she decided it wasn’t working for her. Or they decided the same.
Jesse pulled her out of Grant’s arms while she was distracted, and kissed her softly.
“I missed you,” he said.
“Missed me? I just saw you Friday night.” It came out sharper than she’d meant it to, but how the hell was she supposed to keep up?
He blinked at her.
“I assume you guys had a good day yesterday? Anything interesting?” she asked. Small talk. That’s what they needed to bring things to some kind of normal.
