Jessa’s POV
“Go to Hell, Eryx. To hell with your so-called toxic love. And you…” I turn to Mara. “You both are soulmates made in hell.” I say.
With that, I turn, walking away as I push through the crowd. Every whisper, every gasp, every shocked face burns on my skin but their noise fades the moment the doors of the hall slam shut behind me.
I keep walking, heading to my car, even though my head is messy, no destination in mind.
I can’t go back to my father’s house. It all belongs to Eryx now. He took everything. The mansion, the land, the title.
I can’t go to Eryx’s house either.
After what I just did inside, stepping foot there again would be the stupidest thing in the world.
I’ll just get a hotel. Just for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll figure myself out. It means starting afresh, it means letting go and embracing my new journey. And I am willing and ready to move on this time.
I reach for my car keys inside my bag, but before I can pull them out, someone steps in front of me. Broad shoulders. Black uniform. It’s Eryx’s Beta, Stephen.
His expression is stiff.
“Luna,” he says. “I’ve been instructed to collect the car keys by Alpha Eryx.”
My body goes still.
“Why,” I say. “This is my car.”
He lifts a brow. “Luna, an agreement was signed months ago, the vet belonged to Alpha Eryx now.” My stomach twists painfully the moment that words left his mouth..
Right. I remember now. I’d also transferred it to Eryx out of love, the same day i transferred the house to him.
Everything I once owned… I gave it to him.
I feel stupid all over again.
I tighten my grip on the key fob.
He shrugs.
My throat burns, but I refuse to cry in front of him. Slowly, I place the keys in his palm. His fingers close around them as he bows in respect. “I’ll take my leave now.” He says and walks away.
I’m left standing on the sidewalk with nothing.
Soon, the weather changes as thunder ripples through the sky, a sign that it’s about to start raining in no time.
Just then, I hear a masculine voice call out my name.
“Jessa.”
The voice stops me.
I turn, and there he is. The man who had helped me earlier.
The man who’d helped me pass the guards earlier. He approaches, his presence radiating power, his hands in his pockets, black coat open, eyes calm but looks cold like that of a no nonsense alpha.
His powerful aura radiating around him.
He smirks lazily. “I never knew I helped in there just so you could go reject your lovely husband in front of half the werewolf world.”
I say nothing. He chuckles at a short one that didn’t reach his eyes.
He takes a step forward,
I stiffen.
“Hi…” I stutter.
His lips curved out a slight smile that didn’t reach his eyes as he stood in front of me, his hands in his pockets.
He shrugs.
“It’s nice seeing you again, Jessa Emberfall.” He say.
How did he know my name? I wondered. As if he saw the questions in my eyes, he spoke again.
“The entire city knows you’re the Luna who’s rejected her once loving husband in humiliation. It’s all over the media.”
Oh, I see. The media never ceases to talk about trending news. I guess he must have seen my name attached to my photo on the news.
I want to reply but this is not the best time for me. I just want to lay my head and cry myself alone in the room. Crying will help me ease the pain in my heart.
So I try to dismiss him.
“I’ll have to leave now, we will see some other time.” I say as I try to walk away but his voice makes me halt.
“Wait…” he paused and his lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
For a brief second, neither of us speaks.
Then thunder rolls in the distance again and then a cold drop hits my cheek. Another lands on my neck. Within seconds, the sky opens up and rain crashes down.
Kael moves instantly.
Before I can say a word, he steps close and pulls off his jacket as he drapes his jacket over my shoulders. It feels warm, scented with cedar and something masculine, strong alpha aura threaded through the fabric.
I open my mouth to refuse, but he gently takes my arm and leads me toward a sleek shadow parked by the curb.
The car door swings open automatically. The car is a Stormrend Lykan XR. Released two months ago. The realization left me dumbfounded.
This car is worth more than a small city. The interior glows faintly, custom lighting, silver trims, a thick luxury cent. Rumors said only alphas with ridiculous wealth could afford it.
Even ten of Eryx’s cars can’t match the price of this single vehicle.
And Kael sits inside it like it’s nothing special.
He gestures to the seat. “Come on. You’re getting drenched.”
I slide inside. Kael joins me in the back as the doors close silently.
His driver starts the engine.
I’m looking around, still stunned. I knew Alpha’s of his kind are wealthy, but I didn’t know it was like this.
He glances at me, obviously seeing how surprised I look. And then he smiles but says no word.
He studied me quietly, as he finally broke the silence.
“I see you are really hurt, don’t you want to consider marrying me? To get revenge on Eryx.” He says jokingly. “I’ve got a ring.” He brings out a small red ring box.
My heart stops.
He flips it open.
Inside is a ring. Beautiful, adorable ring. I recognize the brand immediately. It’s Lúmora Royale. The most elite ring manufacturing company in the world, known for making only customized rings worth billions.
The kind of ring only kings or ancient alphas wear. And here he is, offering that ring to me.
He lifts it casually between two fingers.
“Marry me, Jessa Emberfall.”
