WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE.He and Stuart weren't the only ones alarmed, Pablo realized. Someone else was, too. Of what, of whom, and why, he didn't know. But that someone hadn't cowered. He or she, young, middle aged, or old, able bodied or not, whoever that person was, had risked. He or she had seen or heard them enter Maurice's apartment, waited for the opportune moment, tiptoed over, and left a package.
For a time both he and Stuart ignored it. They focused only on getting away from Marlborough Gardens, ignoring a young couple in black punk getup near blows, arguing on the sidewalk near the Cortina.
Stuart headed south on Gower Street at a decent speed through the London night. Not too slowly to let a surveillance car easily follow, not too fast to attract the law’s attention. P
