REX
“This is it, Alpha.” I had one of the senior warriors, Alex, come with me as we trekked through our territory to the far side where it met with Ocean Wood, when it used to be Ocean Wood. “Why did you want to come out here?”
I studied the old brick wall that bordered our lands. Just on the other side was the old remnants of the Ocean Wood Pack, Alina’s home. “No reason, I think.”
“Alright?” Alex gave me a questioning look, but pushed it no further. “I wouldn’t want to mess with the rogues on the other side. I hear the older ones came in and killed everyone in Ocean Wood. Now, they’ve expanded and call themselves a pack.”
Killed our mate’s family. Levi growled in my mind.
We will get revenge, but we have to be patient.
“Where do you hear this?” I asked him.
“When our warriors are sent into the human town, the rogues are usually there. They talk and they report back to me. They think nothing of it of course, but now I suspect Ocean Wood means something to you Alpha. What’s going on?”
Ignoring his question, “Next time they go into town, see what else you can find out about what’s going on over there. Do not leave anything out.”
“Yes Alpha.”
ALINA
Training with Rachel was exhausting. We had already been at it for an hour. She was assessing me on what knowledge I still had before I was a rogue. She knew I had some training; that much was clear, but it had been almost a decade since then. When I turned eight, my dad said that if I was going to be Luna of our pack one day, I needed to learn how to defend myself. At Ocean Wood, training started young as we were one of the most powerful packs in the country. We were smaller than most. We even had the nickname ‘beach wolves’ because of our location, but no one wanted to mess with us. I trained for two years before everyone was killed and I had to run for my life.
Now I’m here at Red Woods, which is now considered the most powerful pack in the country. I knew Rex’s dad had a reputation for being absolutely ruthless and so did Rex, but it was different with him. He truly cared about the well-being of his pack and was trying to run things a little differently.
“Get your head out of the clouds!” Rachel barked as she swept her legs underneath mine sending me on my ass. She knocked the wind out of me. Rachel reached out her hand and pulled me to my feet. “Sorry about that Luna. I know you’ve been through a lot.”
“That’s alright, I’m a bit rusty.” I shook it off and got into my fighting stance again. Rachel and I went back and forth, exchanging blows for another twenty minutes before I finally got the advantage. Rachel’s left side was weaker than normal, like she had an old injury before she got her wolf. I spun and lashed out with a roundhouse kick into her ribs.
The force sent her sprawling back about ten feet outside of the sparring circle. She struggled to her hands and knees, coughing her lungs out. “God damn, Alina. I know you’re an Alpha and all, but that was way stronger than I expected.” Rachel got to her feet.
“Sorry, are you—wait, what did you say?” Rachel called me an Alpha.
“I only meant that you’re Luna.” Rachel scrambled to say.
She would only call me an Alpha if—
“No, you specifically said Alpha.” I argued and looked around to make sure no one would hear me. “You would only say that if you knew I was from Ocean Wood! How could you know that?!”
“Eliza, she recognized your last name. I can’t believe we all forgot, even Rex. Once he remembered—“
“Wait, Rex knows?!”
