Ash's POV:
I had a constant worry in the back of my head that I shouldn't of left Saylor alone, but what else was I supposed to do? She had tried to escape the pack house and I had to resort to taking her to my cabin that I got from my grandfather. No one in the pack knew about it because my grandfather bought it after he passed down the Alpha title to my father, so no one would know where it was. She would be safe there, and it was also so far away from when she was from that she wouldn't know where to run if she did. We'd be able to find her in the woods before anything could happen to her. I also left Hayden, Landon and their mates with her to keep an eye on her and become closer to her. Hayden is my beta and Landon is my TIC. Their mates are just as powerful as them.
When werewolves mate, they become equals with their mates fully in every since. I guess it's a gift from the Moon Goddess that enables us to feel better that our mates are fully capable of taking care of themselves whenever there's trouble.
When a human mates with any wolf they start a whole new full blooded wolf line that makes our children stronger than we are. So I'm going to have to be super careful with Saylor. She'll have a pretty penny on her head if the wrong person finds out about her before we fully mate.
Which will be a lot less stress for us to deal with. When true mates mate fully its forever, there is no rejection or abandonment. Which seems to be a plus for the rogues too, just one bite and they can start a whole new pack for them to lead as an Alpha.
I sat back in my office chair and sighed. I really didn't want to be here I'd much rather be back at the cabin with Saylor than here doing boring Alpha work. I couldn't get her out of my head. Hayden would all call every hour to tell me how she was, but it wasn't the same as seeing her. He says that she really hasn't done anything other than avoid everyone and stick to the kitchen or her room. At least she's feeding herself.
I hope that she understands that she's not stuck to being there in the house, she just can't go off to places by herself without me knowing. It's not as much as a matter of trust as it is a matter of who can attack her or try to take her. They'd know that there was something special about her just from the smell of my sent on her.
My phone began ringing in my pocket, breaking me out of the thoughts that had me zoning in space instead of working on the stack of paperwork that was piling at my desk. I pulled my phone out of my back pocket of my jeans and looked at the caller ID it was Lenny, Hayden's mate.
"Is everything okay?" Was the first thing out of my mouth.
"Yes Alpha, your mate is perfectly fine. So fine in fact that I was calling to ask if it would be okay with you if we went shopping today?" Lenny asked sweetly.
"Was this your idea or hers?"
"Well a little of both, Joy, Saylor and I would like to get to know each other a little bit, and what better way than shopping am I right?"
If she was getting to know the girls did that mean that mean that she was getting used to being with us? Did that mean that she was going to accept me? No, I couldn't get ahead of myself. I had to wait until she was ready. I couldn't get hopeful until she made the first move. The last thing she need was me pushing her to be with me when she wasn't ready. That would only push her away from me.
"Is Hayden going with you?" I asked.
"Well he can if that would mean you say yes, though you know that we can take care of ourselves." She had a little bit of sass in her voice.
"You and Joy can take care of yourself just fine. Its Saylor who wouldn't be able to take care of herself. She has no clue whats really going on here and the last thing I need is to scare her away with you two wolfing out when there's a threat. I want Hayden to go so if there is a threat, you girls can get Saylor as far as possible away from the situation before he wolfs out and takes care of said threat, understand?"
There was a small pause on the other side of the line, I almost thought that she had hung up on me.
"I see your point Alpha, Hayden would love to go with us, we need someone to take care of our bags anyway. Do you have any other request?" Her voice was honest and satisfied with my answer.
"Yes, actually, would you be able to pick something up without Saylor getting wind of it?"
"Oh I'm sure I can."
After going over what she was to get and why, because even though I am Alpha, Lenny wasn't going to let me get away with not answering her questions, I finally hung up.
I sat back in my chair after putting my phone down on my desk. The pile of paperwork finally making its way to my mind. I guess I would actually have to get this done if I want to go see Saylor. If Hayden wasn't with Saylor I could have him help me with all of the paperwork. That was what a beta did, help out the Alpha, lead when the Alpha couldn't, do paperwork because the Alpha couldn't get his mind off of his mate that didn't know they were mates. What a wonderful job huh?
My office door was opened and in stepped my mother, who I had been trying to avoid since I wasn't exactly planning on telling her what was going on with Saylor.
"Mom, what are you doing up here?" I asked, trying not to sound suspicious.
"Can't a mother just come visit her sneaky son who is hiding something from her?" She asked with a gleam in her eye.
Well this was going to be fun.
