Eric and Holly got off the plane in Boston the next morning, and Eric smiled as he realized that he had a day before the next hearing with his Uncle. It was just barely 10 am local time, and his phone dinged with a new alert from the Imperial Court Notification that he had just been served with new papers. He knew he was going to enjoy the next morning when he saw his name on the board of a man.
Just as he was about to ignore it, his phone rang with a number he recognized from the day before. "Hello?" he asked.
"The ride is from me, he needs to tell you some things about your new estate you need to know." President Tycho told him before he hung up.
Eric looked at him again, and looked at Holly. "Does a name really matter that much?" he asked her.
"Not for me Mr. Heinrich." she said with a smile.
"Good Lady Winters, because in a few weeks it will be chaotic once the press figures out who I am." he told her as he looked at the driver waiting for them.
She looked over and shook her head. "Just how rich is your family?" she asked him.
"Are you after me for my money Milady?" he asked her making her slap his arm. "Not sure, my fathers estate was worth $250 billion when he passed 15 years ago." he whispered in her ear as she slapped his arm again.
"Tell me your joking." she said as they began walking towards their ride.
"Not a chance." he said as he looked at the man. "I am Eric Heinrich."
"Come with me Lord Heinrich, I will take you to see the attorneys you need to speak with." he said as he escorted them from the airport.
"Who are we going to see?" He asked.
"Leonard McDermott is the attorney for the Heinrich Family." the driver said as he opened the door for Holly.
The drive was fortunately not very long, and Eric realized that they were meeting at a building his family owned. There was a group of men in suits waiting for them, and as soon as they stepped out of the car, the four of them walked up to them.
"Lord Heinrich, welcome to Boston. I am Mr. McDermott, I was the lead attorney for your father and his estate. I believe you are already familiar with Ms. Smart?" he asked as they shook hands.
"I am, nice to meet you Mr. McDermott. Who might these gentlemen be?" he asked offering his hand to the first.
"Ronald Vickers of New Haven Bank, and Peter Long of Heinrich Investments." Mr. McDermott said introducing each of them.
"Gentlemen, this is my Fiancé Holly Winters. Let us find somewhere private shall we?" Eric asked them as they all turned to walk in the building.
The ride up the elevator was not long, and he realized the bank itself, and the investment firm likely occupied this very building. The walk to the isolated conference room however was a bit longer, but Eric was thankful for that in the moment.
"Mr. Heinrich, Ms. Winters, we have a few matters to verify before we begin." Mr. McDermott said. "We will need to perform Imperial Level identity confirmation. If you will place your right palm on the pad Mr. Heinrich." he said as Eric did so. The screen turned green, and he knew the next step was a retinal scan and than a genetic sample. He passed both with flying colors, before Holly had it done as well. As soon as they were completed, the secretary in charge of it left the 6 of them alone in the conference room.
"So gentlemen, lady, what exactly is it you need to tell me?" he asked them.
"The next step is a reading of both your father's, and grandfather's last wills." Mr. McDermott told him as Eric held up his hand.
"Is it required for the transfer to be completed?" Eric asked them.
"No sir, however both are very complex documents that may be difficult for you to understand." McDermott told him.
"I can manage on my own Mr. McDermott, I am a Licensed Attorney after all." Eric told him bluntly as the man slid both files to him. "Mr. Vickers, I assume you are here to tell me about the financial position the accounts are in?" Eric asked him.
"Yes sir, as you are aware your father's estate has been held in a trust for 15 years. The balance has had steady gains between 7 and 12 percent year over year, and the balance of his estate is currently valued at $470 Billion. Your Grandfather's estate entered a separate trust 2 years ago, and has a current balance of 2.7 trillion. Between the two, there is $280 Billion in liquid assets. $30 Billion from your father's estate, and $250 from your Grandfather's. As far as the business assets, you would need to speak with Mr. Long about that." Ronald Vickers replied.
"The businesses are profitable at the moment sir, however we have had some issues with various subsidiaries that are struggling. Overall the portfolio stands to see a 18 percent return, and will be issuing a 11 percent share dividend in a few weeks." Mr. Long said without being asked.
"Where are the reports gentlemen?" he asked as both slid files to him.
"Without a background in financial assets, those reports may be difficult to read." Mr. Vickers said as he sounded nervous.
Eric smiled as Holly snorted, as he looked at the two of them. "Gentlemen, I suggest you get ahead of anything I might find in these reports. If you are counting on me not understanding them, I will inform you that I have both an MBA, and Masters of Forensic Accounting. I will find any discrepancies, and I assure you the penalty in this moment is far less than what you will face if I am forced to find it on my own." Eric told them both as he leaned forward.
Neither man seemed willing to say anything, and he could tell Vickers was the more nervous of the two. He gave them a full minute before he looked at them.
"Mr. Vickers, I believe I will need the welcome packets for those estate accounts I just inherited." Eric told him. "For Ms. Winters and myself." he said noticing she played it cool that he was adding her to the accounts before they had even discussed a prenup.
"They will be ready in a few moments sir. Part of the verification process was so the accounts could be transferred to your name." Roger said as he seemed to relax a bit.
"Excellent, than we only have one final piece of business to attend to today. You each have one week to provide detailed reviews of all accounts. Going back to when they were placed into the trusts they currently reside." Eric told them as the door opened and he was handed two files. One with his name, and one with Holly's. He knew it contained the information he needed for accessing the bank accounts. "Mr. Long, where might I find an office I can use until the review is completed?"
"This entire section of this level is for you Lord Heinrich. It was the operations center for the entire estate while he was alive, since than, we have had to temper our expenditures to ensure growth in accordance with the trust." Peter Long said indicating the area surrounding this conference room.
"Excellent, I suggest each of you prepares for your reviews." he said indicating they were dismissed.
He waited until they had closed the door after they left when he looked at the two attorneys. "So, what else do we need to address?" he asked them.
"MBFA, and an attorney? What else can you do?" Mr. McDermott asked.
"Let's just say my experience pool is a lot deeper than most. I have a total of 28 degrees or certificates, the other one you would want to know is I am also a doctor, once I pass the boards." Eric told them as they shook their heads.
"Most of today was financial, but I have a feeling most of that will be covered by your review. We do need to discuss the hearing tomorrow. They may be able to maintain standing." Melissa said from her seat.
"Good, than it will be fun to toy with them until we are ready to proceed. What is it they are arguing?" he asked her.
"They are making many arguments that amount to nonsense and a smoke screen. They are arguing that due to the Heinrich Family Rules the contents of the Trust should be turned over to the control of the Heinrich Trust." Melissa said making him laugh.
"Now that is absolute irony." Eric said as he looked at them.
"Care to share?" McDermott asked.
"The Accident Investigation Report is ready, and it proves beyond doubt that Kevin, Marcus and Anthony Heinrich conspired to kill my parents by making the engines explode. We however, are going to have some fun with them before we launch into that. I want the paperwork drawn up to have them removed from the Lord Jason Heinrich trust."
