"Do that and I'm going to teleport behind you and slit your throat with my own fingers!"
Rose looked down at the man who was chained to the floor. There was a tingle of excitement emanating from her red eyes. It had been a long time since she has faced anyone who blatantly hates her. A small smile was flashed on her red lips.
"What did I say, Costro? You always act rashly."
"What do you know about me, huh?"
"Everything." Rose's eyes flashed in the darkness. The red beads became much more intimidating than Costro's yellow beads. "I know everything. Pierre. You. Baldur. Flora. Gene. I know everything that you all hide from the world."
For the first time, the man was stunned. His anger seemed washed away by his confusion. "Wh– who are you?"
"Come on, Costro," Rose said, "you already know the answer without me having to tell you."
When Costro didn't answer, Rose continued. "Go to Flora. The girl has my journal. Read the journal. If after reading that you still feel like killing me, you're free to try. I'm not going to fight."
She continued, "But if you decide to kill me right now, I won't fight either."
For a moment Costro became silent, immersed in his own thoughts.
"The journal... is that the reason Baldur settled here?"
Rose shook her head. "I don't know. Maybe yes, maybe no. Have you spoken to him?"
"Baldur has been brainwashed by you!" Costro spat the words.
The girl stepped inside the cell to Costro. When her hand was about to touch the collar, Costro jerked back a little. His yellow eyes still stared sharply at Rose.
"Aren't you afraid to die?" asked Costro.
Rose's fingers touched the man's collar. There was a hook on the back. Rose removed the hook, making the neckband became loose on Costro's neck. As soon as the hook came off, the symbol on the crystal ball dimmed.
Then before Rose could blink, Costro had disappeared from her presence. And by the next second, Rose's body was thrown to the cell wall. Because her hands were not moving fast enough to hold her body, Rose's cheeks hit the brick wall of the cell. The pain began to spread over her face.
The back of her neck was held by Costro's hand. The man was not tall and not as big as Rose, but his strength still exceeded that of Rose. "I can kill you right now," hissed Costro in Rose's ear.
Rose fell silent for a moment. "Death is not the worst thing for me."
Then Rose did the thing she hated so much but needed to do. Wait.
She had planted the seed of doubt on Costro, she only had to wait for it to take root in this man. Rose bet Costro wouldn't kill her that day.
No. Rose knew Costro wouldn't kill her.
It took three seconds for the pressure on the back of Rose's neck to disappear. Rose twisted her body and only found the darkness of the cell.
She was already alone in that cell.
After exhaling, Rose stepped out of the dungeon. On her way up the stairs, the wound on her cheek had closed slightly. There was still a scar but it was no longer painful.
The warden was very surprised when he saw Rose comes out. The girl was just about to declare that Costro was free when she heard the sound of horse hooves from the direction of the main gate of the residence. Rose decided to say it directly to the supreme leader of Maraina.
The horses were getting closer to the dungeon. So did the cries of the people tied to Victor's horse and his knights. Their bodies were covered with soil, eggs, and tomatoes. It looked like Victor did a parade with them and the folks didn't like the fact they bought illegal children from Maraina.
Upon seeing Rose at the prison door, Victor immediately disembarked from his white horse and rushed to her. "What are you doing here?" the man asked.
His blonde hair had blood spots as well as his cheeks and neck. His hands were covered in blood. So were his clothes. He slashed people in the street in the suit he wore to the auction, not even caring that he was staining his clothes. When Rose imagined it herself, the girl wanted to laugh in her heart.
"I set Costro free."
"Costro... the teleporter?" asked Victor in shock.
"Let's just say it's my way of gaining his sympathy."
His green eyes were slightly squinted but he eventually nodded. His hand suddenly rubbed Rose's right cheek. "There's a–"
Victor froze when he realized that his actions instead of cleaning Rose's cheeks only stained her more with blood. 's**t," Victor cursed. The man immediately pulled his hand and stepped back. He cleaned his throat. "You better come inside the mansion, Rose." Victor's expression became reluctant. It was like... He didn't want Rose to see anything he was about to do. "I'll interrogate them. You won't want to see it."
Rose was actually a little upset by Victor's words. "You think I'm that weak of a woman, huh?" the girl asked. "Don't forget, Duke. All this comes from my plan. I want to interrogate them too."
Rose's eyes looked at Victor with seriousness. When Victor nodded, her gaze softened. "You haven't killed Count Rozar, have you?"
"Not yet. You said you wanted to kill him yourself."
"Good. Leave him for the final interrogation. Let him be scared while he waits. He will break easily."
Hearing Rose's words, Victor smiled. "You know," he said, "Usually a wife would welcome her husband home with sweet words. Not teaching him interrogation techniques."
Rose opened her mouth, but Victor cut the girl off. "And my wife, for your information, I've interrogated people a lot. I did that from the age of fourteen."
"Ha!" Rose scoffed lightly. "My husband, you are good at interrogating spies and soldiers. But these are nobles. Politicians. You'll see that they're easier to break than the people you used to interrogate."
"If you do it too much, they'll break to pieces and in the end, you won't get any useful information," she continued.
Rose raised her eyebrows, challenging the man. Her smile was getting wider. So did Victor's smile.
