Chapter 1

1172 Words
THE OUTLANDS YEAR 5757 11:30pm… The intensity of the moonlight made it easy to see what was happening in the woods: the chaser's excitement, the pursued's struggle, the legions' rush and screams, and the she-wolf panting with a cub in its mouth. The she-wolf ran with great energy and persistence, and when she reached the closest pack, she realized she had a brief period of time to catch her breath and protect the little cub. She then stopped and dropped the little wolf on the ground before shifting back into a beautiful human, with honey-brown hair that cascaded down her back, revealing her nudeness to the moon's rays. She was tattered, battered, and wounded, but she had little time to keep her child safe. As soon as the newly born wolf was tapped on the forehead, it changed back to a human baby girl. She split the fabric in half and wrapped the infant in one of the halves. The baby's hands and ears suffered injuries, and it appeared as though she had passed out from the pain. Savoring her final moment with her daughter, the mother gazed at her with intense love and desire. "My dearest child, may the moon goddess lead you on your way ahead. I love you, Arania, and this is the only way I can protect you. Take care of yourself. Mami te ama," she said, kissing her daughter and stepping into the pack's domain as if there were no barriers. She then tenderly lowered her daughter beneath the tree. When she heard the Legions shriek, she knew they were getting close. She stepped back, put the other half of the fabric in her mouth, gave her daughter one last glance, and left the barrier with the legion following closely after. Five wolves showed up to the spot where the child was left a few minutes later, seeming to be awake and crying. In his wolf form, the Alpha also trailed them and connected their minds. "Charles, what is the situation?" "Alpha Lund, there is no problem with the barrier; all evidence of the intruder has been removed except for the child." Another wolf remarked, "But we heard the barrier being breached." "Well, Gamma, it seems fine to me, so perhaps there was a mistake." The Alpha called them to order just as a fight was about to break out. “Enough!!! What do all these people take this pack for? An Orphanage. What bullshit.” He sighed and turned to walk away, only to turn around. "Throw the cub in with the others; shorter or later, it should bring us good profit." They all chorused, "Yes, Alpha." Year 5779 22 years later Caroline’s P.O.V. After a wild night of partying, I was lying down and attempting to get some beauty sleep. Nick had already threatened to inform my dad, which really irritated me, and it took hours of begging and bribery to get him to stop talking. Cheers to having the worst brother ever! I mean whose brother's tattle tale these days, an older brother for that matter. Just as I was about to venture farther into my fantasy world, there was a loud bang in the kitchen, waking everyone up and sending them running to the living room, where the kitchen is visible. Guess what? My darling three-year-old baby brother was lying on the floor, staring at us with a big smile on his face and a broken plate between his knees. I swear Nathan is after our lives in this house; what could a three-year-old child be doing at this hour of the morning, for God's sake? Nathan's cherise deed was followed by a scream, and who could it be than our stepmother Marcella? Could she really scream any louder? What a poser. Naturally, this kind of behavior enrages our all-powerful father, whose big voice screams in fury. “Arania!!!” The sound of her quick descent made me worry as she ran to answer our father's summons, and when she got down, she didn't even get a chance to get her bearings before receiving a slap that forced her face to hit the floor. My God, that girl is going through so much. She bowed in dread and didn't even try to figure out what she had done wrong before apologizing. "What do I see as soon as I wake up, and why did I specifically instruct you to ensure that child's safety at all times? Would doing something right kill you?" I felt that was somewhat harsh. Arania's attempt to clarify was foiled when Marcella chose to escalate the situation by acting dishonestly. "Arania, even though I may have been harsh towards you, it doesn't mean you should take it out on poor Nathan—he's just a child." Arania's soft voice sounded out in panic, "I will never, I love Nathan like my own." "But that doesn't mean he's your own, so you definitely won't treat him the way you'd treat yours." Alright, so Jack is just being a jerk, and I will no longer put up with it. "Must you always behave like the jerk you are, Jack?" Idiot! I gave a mental scream. When I realized Nathan was still sitting there, watching what was happening, Jack stepped to the counter to get a bottle of water. That's not a good habit for a child. Just as I opened my mouth to say something, Arania hurried over to grab Nathan, pulled him up, and gave him a gentle hug, which he readily gave back. Awwn, so cute, I thought, only for Marcella to roughly grab Nathan out of her hand, making Nathan grunt slightly. Hnmm, that kid, I swear, loves his women pretty and delicate. This of course annoyed Marcella. making her spiteful as she retorted to Arania. "Don't use your death hands to hold my child, Lund. What if she kills him? we still don't know." I cut her off quickly since I knew where she was going. "Marcella, that's enough from you. Can you be more insensitive than you already are. You can't even take care of your own kid, and you're here blaming others, what a hypocrite." "How dare you speak to your mother like that!!" My father yelled, shocking me with a forceful slap that made me scream out in retaliation. "Dad.." And right as I was ready to vent to him about my feelings. Beta Fred, who had just happened to run and was breathing rapidly, was revealed when the door swung open. "Bad News, Alpha Lund" Dad groans wearily and asks, 'Could this day get any worse?' as he stroked his hair in despair and made inquiries, "So what is this about?" Fred found it awkward to discuss it in front of us, but dad didn't seem to mind because he was already under a lot of stress, and by the time Fred made the decision to share, we collectively exclaimed as we all turned to face him in disbelief. "The Silver Moon Pack!!!"
