Chapter Twelve 12 Cold Shoulder

Emma opens her eyes and sees no sign of David in the room, she goes to the bathroom and then freshens up, she looks around but still sees no sign of David.

Emma comes downstairs looking for David and she still couldn't find him, she bumps into Liam who was holding his daughter. "David left you won't see him" he said. Emma gives him a side glance and walks away totally ignoring him.

Emma leaves the house skipping breakfast she goes to see her Master carrying some dumplings with her.

Master Owen was having tea in his house when Emma comes in, "Hello Master Happy New Year"she said showing him the dumplings. "You know what Grandpa likes"he said. Emma serves him some food, "mmmm Grandpa won't eat any other dumpling again except for disciple's" he said. Emma's cheeks turn red, Master Owen was busy eating and he notices the diamond ring on her hand.

"Are you married?" He said. Emma pauses and then she was about to withdraw her hand when Master Owen grabs her hand and then looks at the ring, "Disciple has gotten married and she didn't even tell her grandpa I'm so disappointed in you, when did you get married? When did you throw a wedding and this old man didn't know about it" he said.

"I did" she said her face looking guilty

"We haven't done a wedding yet " said Emma.

"I hope it's not that scum you got married to" he said.

"No Master it's someone else we're over"said Emma.

"I'm still not happy about it, I want to see the brat you got married to " he said.

"He's a very busy man, I'll bring him to see you soon "she said.

"Stay a bit longer "said Master Owen.

"I don't have much to do "said Emma pouring some flower tea for herself, she takes a sip and then she feels bitter inside. She wondered why David reacted like that yesterday, she couldn't just seem to understand him. Emma thought she was overthinking things and decided not to think about it again she came to visit her Master and forget about everything for a while.

Emma followed her Master to the little pond in his residence and she helps him feed the fishes in pond. Emma stayed there till evening she slept in the courtyard and woke up feeling a bit peaceful in the inside the first person who appeared in her mind was David she turned on her phone not even a message from him.

Her Master was watering some plants when he sees her stretching.

"She has woken up" he said.

"Master I think I should leave now my husband might be worried " she said leaving. "Have a good evening " he said.

Emma drives home hoping to see David but he hadn't come home. "Well it's his life we're only partners what's the big deal" she said, taking off her shoes and looking at her toe that was a bit red. She yelps in pain and then goes into the bathroom she freshens up and then applies some ointment on her toe, it had a cooling sensation. Emma couldn't help but wonder why David hadn't come home she had her dinner, and it was 10: 30 and he was still outside Emma looked at her phone and found herself dialing his number. It rang once twice finally it went through, someone answered.

"Hello David's not available right now he's taking a shower, if it's important you'll have to wait, or I'll drop the message for you" came a woman's voice.

Emma hung up immediately and then throws her phone on the bed. "Emma you're such an i***t a fool that's what you are, look you're so worried about him and he's out with some woman being all intimate no wonder he's so good at flirting he's a woman expert damn the Clarkson family" she said with a frown grinding her teeth. "This is the last time I'll care about him" she said lying down on the bed and going to sleep. After a while Emma heard the door open, she felt someone walk into the room and towards the bathroom. Emma shut her eyes tightly, and after a few minutes she felt the other side of the bed sink like someone was lying on it. She ignores David and stays at the farther end of the bed.

The next morning

The two were far apart from each other and were both at each edge of the bed. Emma opens her eyes and sees David still asleep, Emma gets up and then she goes to the bathroom. David opens his eyes immediately he leaves and then he gets up too. Emma comes out from the bathroom after a while saying nothing she didn't even give him a glare and went to dry her hair. David observes her and wondered why she was so quiet this morning, he too decided not to say anything and leaves. Emma packs her stuffs pressing them with annoyance inside the luggage, David comes out of the bathroom looking at her, her face was filled with frustration as if she was taking her anger out on the box. He sighs and shakes his head, "That's not the proper way to do it" he said approaching her. Emma's facial expression changes and she drags the box away from him, "I can do it myself Mr Clarkson" she said.

She was back to calling him that way but in a cold tone he couldn't even touch her.

Emma zips the box "I don't need you to be so intimate I checked the room there is no bug, I'm fine" she said without looking at him and walking away. David looks at Emma she seemed to be frowning, "Emma is there a problem?" He asked. Emma looks at him "No there isn't I'm just keeping my distance we're partners remember Mr Clarkson" she said, marching downstairs. David watched her leave there was definitely something wrong but what exactly? Why was she so cold and distant from him this morning " she said. David comes downstairs and sees Emma sitting down and eating quietly, he sits next to her and he starts eating too. David picked some food for Emma and she eats it quietly, "Sister is something bothering you?" Lisa asked.

Emma smiles a smile that was not a smile "I'm fine it's just that someone has been trying to show discord in marriage making my husband to misunderstand things, Sister I think you should keep your husband's hands to yourself or else next time I'll cut them off enjoy your meal"said Emma standing up and leaving, David wipes his mouth and then he follows Emma who was sitting down with a stone cold face. "Emma I'll ask you for the last time is something bothering you" said David.

"And why do you care!! It's none of your business"she said, standing up about to get up when David holds her hand and pulls her to the wall. "Emma do you have a problem with me you've been giving me the cold shoulder all morning"he said looking into her eyes. "Mr Clarkson isn't this too much" she said.

"Emma why are you spitting at me this morning " he said.

"I told you I'm keeping my distance, if you want I can rent another apartment and only come if you need me" she said, slipping away from him and going outside.

Emma and David left Clarkson mansion that morning the journey was in silence. Emma turns on some music in the car closing her eyes and not caring about his existence. David on the other side was greatly annoyed by her attitude and he grinds his teeth then takes out the disk then throws it out of the window. Emma opens her eyes looking at him. "Why did you do that" she said. David says nothing and continues driving, when they get home Emma goes to her room and shuts the door. David decided to ignore her too and then he goes out, Emma comes out in the evening with her laptop writing again.

When the door opens. "Nice house" came a lady's voice, Emma pauses and stands up upon hearing David's kind voice saying "Make yourself comfortable"

Emma clentches her fists and then decided to show herself, David looks at Emma. Sitting on the couch was a lady who was thinking and extremely beautiful,

They both lock eyes staring at each other

"We have a guest" said Emma.

David looks at her "Emma why don't you prepare something nice like a snack or something"he said. Emma smiles "Sure Mr Clarkson" she said going into the kitchen. "Who is she?" The lady asked.

Emma stood by the kitchen door "My wife" said David. "But only on paper" he adds he had already seen a figure peeping by the door. Emma places her hand on her chest feeling the rapid thrum of her heartbeat, she frowns and then ties an apron on her neck and starts preparing dinner, with a long face, at the same time her ears perked up, on what they were talking about. They seemed really close and the woman's laugh made her more annoyed. "He said I'm just his wife on paper"she mutters to herself. "I thought of apologizing but I just wasted going to waste my breath" said Emma taking her anger out on the vegetables. Aunt Grace wondered what was going on with Emma she has been cursing at someone and then she heard David sneeze in the living room.
