Chapter 2 Reborn

2249 Words
Laura's POV "Wake up." a voice rings in my head. I let out a sharp breath and open my eyes. I am about to cheer for my awakening from the nightmare when I find myself standing in a dimly lit room. Although I don't know where I am, there is one thing for sure, this is not my bedroom, where I should have been. Confused, I look around while fidgeting my fingers. "Hello? Is anyone there?" "Oh, you hypocritical slut." someone cries, "There is no one else here, and you can stop acting as if you were some fragile flowers in need of accompany and care. I know you are nothing like that." My instinct is to make self-defense, but I eventually give up. The voice is criticizing Agnes, not me. And there is nothing to be angry about. Agnes is a b***h. It is natural for people to criticize her. In fact, it rightly proves my skilled writing-I can shape a character stimulating readers' emotions. A surge of pride swells in my mind. I suppress my smile and scan the room, "Who are you?" Still, I can't figure out who I am talking to, and I can't help but arch my brows. I start to inspect the room. It is like a game of hide and seek, and the thrill of discovering a hiding spot is palpable. My heart pounds with excitement. I look for the area behind the curtain, under the bed, inside the wardrobe but my search is fruitless. I even check the tight nooks and crannies to see if the player has squeezed herself in. The search lasts no more than five minutes, and I am interrupted by an impatient snarl, "What are you looking for?" "I am looking for you, obviously." "Are you losing your mind, Garcia? I am your f*****g wolf!" she cries, "I know you're a brainless lovesick pup, but expecting to find me under the quilt is too stupid even for you, don't you think?" "Oh." I blink, and put the pillow back in its place slowly. "Why are you acting so weirdly? Aren't you going to attend the ceremony?" The creature interrogates me, sounding suspicious. "What ceremony?" I ask and figure out the answer before she responds. Her words remind me of how I died last time, and I see horrible flashes from my past life. My male lead Leon Williams just ordered his Beta to strangle me and send my body to the witch for experiment purposes. I don't know if they genuinely bring my corpse to the witch but I think they would, since Alpha Leon is characterized by his integrity-he always keeps his promise. For f**k's sake, it is me who equipped him with such virtues. "Oh poor Garcia, you are blanching. You look like a piece of s**t. You're afraid now?" the wolf laughs sardonically, "I tried to stop you when you plotted the betrayal and cheating, but you ignored me and told me to f**k off. Now after everything you did, you're too timid to claim your reward? You're pathetic. I don't feel sorry for you at all since I've told you so! You should have thought twice before taking action instead of blocking your wolf. It is too late to regret!" "I know you were neglected and mistreated. And I feel sorry for you, alright?" I sigh and try to reason with her, "Believe it or not, I am not your old master Agnes Garcia. I created her. So would you please stop lashing out your anger at me since Agnes is the one who pissed you off. Not me. I am innocent. In fact, I am also frustrated when I find I am trapped in Agnes's body." "So you are Agnes' mom?" the wolf shouts in disbelief. "No!" "But you said you created her." the wolf makes a challenge. "That's true. I created her. With my pen, not with my womb." I blush fiercely and lower my voice in case my conversation with the wolf will be overheard by eavesdroppers, "How could I possibly give birth to a child? You know what? I just had my 18th birthday and I am still a virgin." "Bullshit." The wolf cries, "You've slept with 36 male wolves." I gulp at the number and ask in disbelief, "Where the f**k did you get the number?" "I counted it for you. Dummy." the wolf sneers and complains, "Each time you screw someone, I will feel pain because wolves are animals loyal to their mates. You are fine with opening your legs to different men, but I am not. What you did just made me sick." "What Agnes did." I clear my throat and correct her. "Right. Sorry." The wolf replies flatly, and she continues, "But this is your fault, too. Why did you create such a vulgar character? Couldn't you write stories whose main characters are good people?" "I did." I try to defend myself, "Judy Green is my female lead, and she is super nice. Determined and friendly. I created Agnes Garcia to set a contrast. This is a writing technique. Can you understand such stuff?" "Of course, I can." the wolf drawls, "Don't you underestimate my intelligence." "Alright. That's awesome." I laugh, relaxing a little, "Now would you forgive me and let me know your name, witty wolf? I hope we can get along well with each other, for we might be stuck together for a while. I'm afraid our bonding won't be ended until I figure out a way to fix the problem." "You can call me Lily." the wolf gives me her name and snorts, "And no, I won't forgive you unless you can appoint another person to be my master. I don't want Agnes Garcia. I want someone else. Kind and smart, just like me." "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lily." I smile and can't help but tease her, "You're an impressive figure but I don't think your characteristic has anything to do with kindness." "I have a golden heart. It is your fault if you couldn't see it. You are as blind as Alpha Leon." Lily huffs and prompts, "Why don't you change the development of the story? Maybe you and I will both be freed from- whatever it is situation." "Great idea!" My face lit up at her proposal. I nod eagerly, "Where can I get a pen? Can you show me the direction?" Surprised at my cooperative attitude, Lily softens her voice and says, "Sure. The library and the study are in the red tower, second floor, where Agnes seduced Wood but failed." "Wood? You mean the twin Gammas?" "Yes." "Who did Agnes seduce anyway? Arthur Wood or Peter Wood?" I ask curiously. "Both." Lily replies, "Arthur caught Agnes straddling Peter. He asked Agnes to get off his brother, but Agnes ignored his request. She laughed and invited Arthur to do a threesome, which eventually provoked him. Arthur couldn't do anything to Agnes as Alpha Leon had introduced her as the future Luna to the pack. So Arthur lashed out his anger on Peter, beating him up to disobey Agnes." "Gosh," I hide my face behind my hands, immersing myself in embarrassment and desperation. I mutter, "Why did Agnes mess up with them anyway?" "Honestly, I don't know. Sometimes I want to c***k Agnes' head to see what is in her little head. How could a she-wolf be so evil and shameless." Lily sighs and muses, "You're the author. Shouldn't you have more clues than me?" "I assure you what Agnes did was not in my draft." I shake my head, "I did want this character to be evil, but I didn't spend much effort using examples to convince readers how evil she was. Guess Agnes found out the way herself." "Maybe." Lily agrees and presses me, "Let's move now. We need to fetch the pen before the ceremony." "Why is that?" I ask. "Today is Alpha Leon and Agnes Garcia's bonding ceremony. They are supposed to vow to accept each other. If we fail to change everything before that, things will get complicated. It will be tougher for us, don't you think?" "You are damn right." I mutter and share my experience with Lily, "I just got strangled by John Cooper, like half an hour ago. Alpha Leon could be quite cruel and merciless when dealing with someone that betrayed him." "What? You were dead? Are you a spook?" Lily asks in a panicky voice. "Nonono, nothing of the sort." I console her, "I am alive. I can breathe, for now at least. Somehow I was killed and reborn." "Reborn?" "Yes." I say as I touch my neck. I feel no pain. I walk to the mirror, standing in the corner and observe the reflection. Then I tell Lily, "I can't find the trace. The bruise was gone." "Agnes," Lily calls and stops, "Sorry, but can I have your name?" "You can call me Laura, Laura Hinks," I introduce myself. "Okay, Laura." Lily whispers, "Step back and look at the mirror." I follow her advice and see a familiar figure. I stare at it, hands to my mouth, "That's me." "Yes. You and your reflection in the mirror look different. I assume the one inside is what you truly look like." Lily remarks calmly, "For now, you are under the clothing of Agnes." "That's true." I feel goosebumps appear on my arms. My brain is processing how creepy the scenario is when someone knocks on the door and makes me jump a little. I glance over the entrance and see a figure standing in the shadow. The man resembles a Greek statue that comes to life. His chiseled features and perfectly symmetrical face catching the eye of all who beholds him. His blonde hair was neatly styled and fell in waves, framing his jawline and highlighting his emerald eyes. His physique was that of an athlete's, with broad shoulders, a sculpted chest, and well-defined muscles that rippled beneath his taut skin. I can partly understand why Agnes tried to seduce such a man. Agnes' desire is morally wrong, but his appearance is flawless. As I stare at the man, he breaks the silence lingering between us. "The Alpha sends me to ask if you're ready and need any sort of help," He announces coldly, trying to let me know this is the only reason why he is here. I recollect myself and try to conceal my nervousness, "Oh, thank you for checking on me. I am fine. I will be there soon." He arches his eyebrows and gives me a suspicious look. Instead of leaving, he focuses his intent gaze on me and glances at the mirror. Appalled at what he may discover, I step aside, keeping a distance from the mirror, and then turn to him, "You may leave now, Peter." His mouth twitches slightly, and his face darkens, "I am Arthur." "Sorry! I am extremely sorry." I blurt out, feeling super embarrassed that I mistook him for his twin brother. Lily's laughter burst out in my head despite I asking her to stop laughing and give me a hand. "I never expect an apology from you. Last time we met, you threatened to have me beheaded." Arthur sends me a weird look, "You can stop acting. There is no one else here." "I am not acting. I am not—" I want to tell him I am not Agnes, but Lily stops me, "Don't tell him. Arthur wouldn't believe you. He would think you're crazy and notify Alpha Leon. Then we will never be able to get to the library!" She is probably right. The last time I told Alpha Leon the truth, he didn't believe me and ordered his Beta to execute me. It will be too stupid to make the same mistake twice. I ponder the positives to the proposal and decides to follow Lily's suggestion. "You are not what?" Arthur asks, still waiting for me to complete the statement. "I am not the same person anymore." I simper and hold my fingers in front of my chest, "I've decided to be a better person, a she-wolf faithful to her mate, a responsible Luna who can assist her Alpha in managing the pack." Arthur snorts in disdain. He doesn't bother to argue with me, but gives me an indifferent nod, "Of course. I will wait outside and escort you to the ceremony. The Alpha won't be happy if you're late on his big day." Though the Gamma tries to disguise his emotions and his expressions are unreadable, I can sense the sarcasm and hatred in his tone. I feel uneasy while I know I can't blame Arthur. He is a decent man and he has every reason to hate me after what I, or rather, Agnes did to him. "Okay." I walk off in his direction and he flinches when I approach. It feels horrible to be hated by someone. And I assure you the sorrow will be sharpened if the one who hates you happens to be handsome. I pretend not to see the alertness and coldness in his eyes and close the door. "What are we going to do now, Laura?" Lily whispers to me, "He blocks the exit." I scan the room with my eyes ultimately centering on the bed canopy. I smile as a plan comes to mind, "We make a cord. Then we jump from the window."
