Chapter 4 Time Loop

1557 Words
Laura’s POV “Wake up.”The voice ripples in my head. I sit up, finding myself sitting on the edge of the bed whose canopy is dangling with the wind. Like what I expected, I am not only trapped in Agnes Garcia’s body but also stuck in a dame time loop. A new start will be triggered each time I get myself killed, forcing me to continue the adventure. It is like playing a real-person game, where you can save the game and respawn at a checkpoint. I wonder if my wolf remembers what happened to us. So I start, “Lily, do you know who I am?” “Yeah. You’re Laura Hinks, a bloody author who assigned Agnes the b***h to be my master.”She mutters, “You scared the s**t out of me. Why did you stab yourself with that dagger?” “I was badly injured, or rather, paralyzed. It would be impossible for us to get to the library under that circumstances,” I tell her, “Death is the fastest way to bring everything back to normal. And here we are, a new life, a new chance.” “Fine.”Lily growls low, “Next time you want to kill yourself, tell me in advance. I was so scared. We’re a team, and you shouldn’t act so impulsively without letting me know what is going on.” “Okay. I am sorry. I haven’t gotten used to having a wolf. Please give me some time to get accustomed to your existence.” “Did I disturb you?”Lily asks nervously. “Nothing of the sort.”I laugh, “On the contrary, I quite enjoy your accompany. I’ve never got someone I could talk to as a human. It is good to have you.” “You’re a human.” “That’s right.” “Then why do you make Alpha Leon hate human beings?” “He is supposed to hate his human mate first and then fall in love with her later. You can regard it as a writing technique. I did a survey before writing this story. Readers love reading stuff like enemies to lovers or opposite attractions.” “How weird.”Lily mutters and asks, “Does this rule apply to Arthur too? I think he jumped to save you for a reason.” “Arthur didn’t jump for me. We both know he loathes me. The only reason why he jumped was probably due to his commitment to his pack.” “Well, it could be part of the reason. But I still think you have somehow reshaped Arthur’s attitude. Don’t worry. I will talk to his wolf and dig out some secrets from him. I hope he can tell me how Arthur thinks of you.” “That’s pretty cool.”I am amazed at Lily’s ability. “As a wolf of a social butterfly, striking up a conversation with other wolves is a piece of cake,”Lily says with a sense of pride. “Good for you.”I smile. Then there is a knock on the door, interrupting our conversation. My face lights up when I hear the sound. I stand up and rush to the entrance, throwing myself onto Arthur and give him a big hug, “Thank you for saving me!” His body stiffens, and he pushes me back with brutal force. His face darkens as he warns me through gritted teeth, “Keep your hands off me, Garcia. You’re soon to be the Luna of our pack and you should stop hunting different men for fun. Once Alpha Leon discovers this, you will be executed sooner or later despite the fact that you’re his favor. So go and f**k whoever you want. Just leave Peter and me out of your nasty scheme. You have had enough of living. We don’t. ” The words are too harsh to take. He makes me feel like I am a w***e aching for relentless s*x. Shame to admit, but I’ve never f****d a man. Why should I take the blame for something I never did before? Feeling deeply wronged by his accusations, I sniffle as tears start trickling down my cheeks. “Oh, now you’re crying.”Arthur observes coldly, “Do you think your tears will make me feel sorry for what I said? Or even change my mind to f**k you? Did you use this trick to fool other men? I bet you did, for your acting is so good. No wonder they say practice makes perfect. But your trick won’t work for me, Garcia. My heart is waterproof, so stop crying. Your tears just make me feel sick.” With a simple speech, Arthur succeeds in making all of my gratitude for him disappear. He doesn’t remember how he jumped from the window to save my ass, and it is pointless for me to mention it to him. He won’t buy the story. There is a sinking silence between us, and Arthur eventually breaks it, “The Alpha sends me to ask if you’re ready and need any sort of help.” Neglecting the fact that he is repeating himself, I nod,“Yes. I need your help. Please take me to the library. I have some issues to address.” His face changes at my mention of the place, and he asks, “Are you trying to humiliate me?” “No!”I snap, “It has nothing to do with you. You’ve told me to stay away from Peter and you and I’ve kept that in mind.” Taken aback by my reaction, Arthur steps back a little and replies, “You’d better do.” Tired of arguing with him, I let out a deep sigh and ask, “Now can you lead the way, please?” “I never expected a please from you.”Arthur raises his eyebrows at me, “Last time we met—” “I threatened to have you beheaded.”I cut him off before he could finish the sentence as I know what he is going to say. “That’s right.”He blinks. “I am sorry for what I said to you, okay? And I am sorry for whatever I did to you and to your brother. I didn’t do it intentionally. I was—”I stop, hesitating how to explain the whole situation to him. I was what? I was another person. This is too vague and not informative. I was possessed by a devil and was forced to do horrible things. What if he is an atheist? I was diagnosed with double personalities and all of my crimes were committed by the guilty person while I am innocent. I don’t think werewolves know much about science and psychology. Finding a convincing explanation is like a mission impossible. I sigh and give up wasting time on it, “Never mind. Let’s go to the library.” “Why are you going there?” “This is none of your business.” “Tell me, or I won’t show you the way.”Arthur says as he focuses his gaze on my face, “You don’t know where the library is, do you?” “Of course I know. It is in the red tower, second floor.”I answer calmly. “That’s correct.”Arthur c***s his head and squints his eyes, “Then why did you ask me to lead the way?” My heart skips a beat as he states, “You have no idea where the red tower is, do you?” “Where is the red tower?”I ask Lily. “I don’t know.”She whines, “If my memory serves me right, it lies in the northeast, I guess?” “Of course I know.”I raise my chin to confront Arthur’s suspicious gaze and announce with a confident smile, “It is in the northeast.” Light flashes across his eyes. He steps closer and smirks,“Wrong answer.” “I am sorry Laura. I am not good at identifying directions.”Lily says quietly. “I am fully aware of that now.” I sigh, but I don’t have time to blame her for I still have Arthur to deal with. Right now he is beaming at his discovery like a sailor discovering a continent. There is a bright smile on his face as he claps his hands and demands with enthusiasm,“Whoever you are, you can’t be Agnes Garcia. Now introduce yourself properly or I will have you beheaded.” I shiver at the threat and mutter, “With your dagger?” “Yes, with my—” Arthur stops as he glances down at the sheath tied to his belt and his gazes returns to my face. His expressions turn more serious, “You even know I use a dagger as a weapon?” “Haha, it was merely a lucky guess.”I simper. “Cut the crap and answer my question. You should answer it wisely, for I won’t give you a second chance.”Arthur pulls out his dagger, targeting my throat and spits word by word,“Who are you?”
