Kimberly The moment Aiden walked away, an overwhelming wave of guilt washed over me. I felt it seep into my chest, tightening its grip on my heart with each step he took farther from me. The harsh words I’d thrown at him echoed in my mind, and I clenched my fists, hating myself for lashing out. He didn’t deserve it. He was only trying to help, and I had treated him like he was the enemy. I remained where I stood for a moment, willing my breathing to even out as the noise of the party swirled around me. My anger had dissipated, leaving only shame and regret in its place. Aiden had seen through me. He had seen through my carefully constructed walls, and that terrified me. It wasn’t his words that had struck the hardest; it was the look in his eyes. He knew I was hiding something
