“Jungkook?” Taehyung asked as the other walked up to him, “what are you doing here?”
“I was just passing by when I saw you” Jungkook lied, he knew he purposely came there with the intention of actually seeing the other, “What are you doing here?” he asked back even if he already knew the answer, he already had Yugeom find out where he lived and where he worked after finding out the other didn’t actually go to school.
“I work here” Taehyung said pointing at the café he just left, “and I live in the neighborhood” he added watching Jungkook’s mouth form an ‘o’ in understanding as he moved closer to Taehyung, his hand scratching at the back of his neck shyly.
“Umm Taehyung?” he asked shyly “why didn’t you call me after I gave you my number” he added, after he had given Taehyung his number he didn’t leave his phone because he thought he would get a call or maybe a text from the other, he went everywhere with his phone even to the bathroom and instantly picks it up if it rings only to be dissapointed since it wasn’t who he was expecting. A week passed and he got tired and hopeless, he was so desperate that he got so close to asking Jimin about Taehyung but decided against it since they still hated each other and choosed instead to go see the boy himself.
“Actually, I don’t have a phone” Taehyung answered with a small laugh “I wanted to tell you but you ran away before I had a chance” he added and Jungkook felt like a fool because he should have thought of that possibility right from the beginning but he didn’t because he thought a person living in a place like earth must have a phone.
“You don’t have a phone?” he asked surprised to which Taehyung nodded and he found himself releasing a breath he didn’t know he was holding, laughing softly at how stupid he had been for the past week.
“But when I get one I promise to call you” Taehyung assured with a smile hearing the other mutter a small okay. It got silent as they both stood on the side walk in an awkward silence.
“Are you heading home, let me walk you” Jungkook said and they both began their walk in the direction of Taehyung’s place, all the while sharing light stories about their lives. Jungkook found out the other was from an orphanage along with Jimin who he had been friends with since like ‘forever’. He felt for the both of them but felt his heart swelling with more love for Taehyung, one he couldn’t explain.
Taehyung was talking about his memories in Daegu, a sense of nostalgia running through him as he thought back to before; when he and jimin were still kids and messed around, he smiled fondly at the memory and Jungkook smiled fondly at him, he was lost in the smile of the boy who he thought was way too pretty to be human, he looked at Taehyung in a daze like he was an angel.
They were so lost in their worlds that they didn’t even realise they had stepped into the main-road when suddenly there was light flashing on them and then car honking. Everything happened in slow motion, Jungkook had quickly stepped backward, immediately pulling Taehyung with him causing the both of them to fall on the floor with Taehyung right on top of Jungkook, the insults from the driver as he drove away not as loud as their beating heart.
“Are you okay Tae?” Jungkook asked the other who was breathing way too fast on his chest.
"I'm fine, you? " Taehyung asked back obviously shaken by the close accident.
"I'm okay" Jungkook said even though his lower spine which received the impact of the fall hurts like hell.
"Are you sure?" Taehyung asked again as he watched Jungkook wince while trying to sit up.
“I'm fine" He answered, successfully sitting up.
"If you're hurt we can go to a nearby clinic"
"Don't worry Taehyung"
"But I... "
"Shh... " Jungkook hushed him by placing a finger on his lips, "I'm really okay" He assured the still shocked Taehyung whose hands were still shaking as he got up from the other before helping him up.
"Thank you Jungkook" Taehyung said as he looked at him gratefully, lips pulled out in a smile.
"It's nothing, it's a good thing I saw the car on time" Jungkook said as he watched Taehyung fumble with his fingers which he grabbed to make Taehyung look at him.
"It's okay now Taehyung, let's go" Jungkook said with a smile, smiling wider when Taehyung returned it.
So they continued their walk but payed attention to where they were going so that they could avoid getting into another accident.
"Why aren't you in the dance school Jungkook?" Taehyung asked as he side glanced at jungkook.
"By this time?" Jungkook asked surprised, "Official dance practice stops by 2: 00pm but some of us choose to stay behind when we feel like it" He said watching as Taehyung's eyes turn sad.
"What's wrong?" He asked but Taehyung just turned to him with a smile.
"Nothing, I just thought maybe they had increased your time there because of the contest but I understand now" It doesn't take long for Jungkook to realize what Taehyung is talking about, Jimin was always at bighit, he only goes out for some hours to do his job and comes back after a while only to leave at the early hours of morning, Taehyung must be missing him.
"This my place" Jungkook heard Taehyung say as they stopped in front of a small shabby place, the scratched out paint of the house showing how poor it was.
"Oh" Jungkook said
"Thank you for accompanying me " Taehyung said shyly before moving to hug Jungkook "and for saving my life" he added before pulling away much to the dissatisfaction of Jungkook.
"You're welcome" He answered simply as he watched Taehyung walk past him to get to his house, a quiet goodbye falling from his lips.
"Taehyung? " Jungkook called just before he could open the door to his house, he turned around to face Jungkook, eyebrows raised in question.
"If I got you a phone, would you accept it?" Jungkook asked hopefully and Taehyung smiled
"You don't have to, when I get paid I'll try to buy one" Taehyung answered but Jungkook insisted.
"I have them a lot at home, my mom buys them like cheap accessories, it wouldn't matter if I gave one of it to my friend" Jungkook said trying to persuade the other.
"But... "
"Please" Jungkook pleaded, using his puppy eyes which he always uses to get anything he wanted from people and he knew it had the same effect on Taehyung because he was smilingly biting his lips as he reconsidered.
"Fine, I'll appreciate that" Taehyung finally answered, laughing when Jungkook did a funny victory dance as if he was the one getting something.
"I'll bring it over tomorrow" Jungkook said as he starts walking backwards "goodnight Taehyung" He said before turning around to walk away all the while a small blush on his face and a big smile on his face; the effects of Taehyung in his life.
Taehyung entered the room to find it empty as usual but unlike other days he felt happy today because a certain someone cheered him up without knowing it, someone made him laugh after such a long time and it felt good to have a friend who could do that for him.
The next day was a Sunday which meant only few hours at the cafe before Taehyung can rest for the day, he was almost done for the day when Jungkook came in, a little paper bag in his hand.
"Hello Taehyung" he greeted cheerfully obviously in a very good mood like all the time when he's with Taehyung.
"Hi Jungkook" Taehyung greeted back before looking around, "wait for me I'll be done soon" Taehyung said before running inside the cafe's locker room to get changed.
"Let's go" Taehyung said after he emerged.
"Here" Jungkook gave Taehyung the paper bag which he opened to find an Android phone that looked more expensive than his house and everything it contains.
"Wow, it's beautiful" Taehyung exclaimed as he examined the phone while they walk by the park.
"Are you sure it's okay for you to give me this? " He asked Jungkook who nodded with a proud smile.
"Like I said Taehyung, there's more where that came from" He said as he watched Taehyung examine the phone.
"Wow" Taehyung said again before a look of confusion took over his features.
"So how do I turn it on? " He asked with a pout making Jungkook's poor heart go erratic as he laughed, pulling Taehyung down on a park bench before teaching him how to operate the phone.
It turned out Taehyung had zero knowledge about phone making it difficult to teach and so by the time they were done, it was already dark and so they bid farewell and went their own way with a promise to talk to each other over the phone.
"Where were you Tae?" Jimin asked calmly once he walked through the door,
"At the park, why? " He asked
"I just thought since it's Sunday you might want to hang out" He answered with a smile as one broke out of his friend's face "and... What's that?" He interrupted himself once he sees something light up in Taehyung's hand.
"This?'' Taehyung asked waving the phone at him, " It's a phone " he answered in a duh tone
"Where did you get it from? " Jimin asked surprised cause the phone looked way too expensive for Taehyung to just get overnight.
"Someone gave it to me" He simply said making Jimin's eyes widen more in surprise as he laughed Mockingly.
"Really Tae, someone just gave you such an expensive phone just. Like. That?" He asked bewildered especially when the other nodded like it was a normal thing.
"Damn Tae how are you so lucky?" He asked as he looked at his smiling best friend who was trying to operate the phone "I wish I was as lucky as you" He added making Taehyung turn to face him.
"You're lucky Jimin, see you get to attend your dream school and everything has been going your way, don't you consider that lucky?" Taehyung asked making Jimin chuckle.
"You have a point"
"I always have a point, I'm like your inspiration" Taehyung said while wiggling his eyebrows making Jimin push him lightly with a playful snort before gently grabbing his phone to look at it.
"By the way who gave you this?" He asked as he swiped through the phone but the reply he got was enough to have his hand stand still.
"It was Jungkook, that guy that also attends Bighit, you know him" Taehyung answered happily.
"Jung what now!?"
