Chapter 3

I loved what I did in marketing, so much so that I'm now able to work remotely and move to where I want. But going into this building and dealing with these people was so agonizing that the last five years were a hard stretch. Being only 30 and able to have a job and income level that was beyond fitting was amazing, so I was able to deal with just about anything. Today was just a formality of me going in and cleaning up my last project and desk. This was my last day. I smiled to myself walking into the building knowing this. My house was already packed in a moving truck headed to a larger-than-life cabin I had bought outright with the bonus I received from my last project. I hadn't been sitting down very long when a shadow came over me. I sighed and plastered a fake smile for my overly nice boss. He was a hands-on type of man who didn't take any very well, so when I had turned him down this last time it made him all that more eager. "Good morning Todd." he looked at me, well if looking down the front of my shirt was looking at me then I guess it counted. Seeming to be aware that I spoke to him he finally looked at my face and said, "Good Morning, I was hoping to catch you before you leave today. Would you like to have lunch with me?" ugh can't he understand no means no. I know I'm not the prettiest woman ever, seriously being 5'8 curvy and I'm not fit at all doctors would be considering me overweight. But I'm healthy I just like good food and not much to exercise, I'd rather be reading and listening to music that was my idea of a good time. "No Todd, I'm only here for a couple hours then I'm leaving." He slumped his shoulders a bit in a defeated pose, "Well it was wonderful working with you I hope you keep up with us." his eyes lit up hopefully. I just shook my head and turned back to finish up my project. Noon came and went; unfortunately, I was no closer to getting this project finished. Looking at the clock I started in surprise at the time, it was well past six pm. I should have been on the road hours ago. grabbing my phone I texted the real estate lady and asked if she would mind having someone there when the moving van got there in the morning around 10 am. Right away she texted me back that it wasn't a problem. Well, one last thing I didn't have to worry about. I looked at the power points I had made one more time, I knew they weren't done but with any luck the company I was completing them for would give me a bit of an extension. Looking up the email address to them was simple but what surprised me was that the company was based in the same town I was moving to! What were the odds of that? I finished attaching the power points and other bits of work and asked if I could have an extension. I also added that I was going to be remote now so if they liked I could hand the project off to another worker or when I got to town I could finish it up. I sent the email and sat there with hopes that they would extend it because I took so much pride in my work that I would hate to have someone mess it up. So I busied myself with cleaning out my desk and before I knew it my computer pinged that I had received an email. Dear Mrs. King I would be delighted if you would finish the work you sent me, it looks exactly like I want it. I would also like to have a meeting with you about some details I would like to add, we have had some recent changes and I believe with the work you just sent me, that you may be the one to add these in. In any case please contact my office when you get settled into your new home, I will extend your finish date for another amount of time after our meeting. Sincerely Jarred Redwolf CEO/owner The rest of the email was information that would be able to let me contact them when I came into town. I laughed at myself, wow things were really gonna go my way this time. I couldn't help but smile the rest of the time I was cleaning up my area. When I was done I sent one more email to the company letting them know of my expected arrival and lastly, I added, It's Miss, not Mrs but I appreciate the formality. If I didn't know any better I would have sworn he was sitting waiting on my email. Because it wasn't two minutes before I got one back that said, Dear MISS King, That sounds a lot better I look forward to our meeting. Wow, I don't know what to make of this but for some reason that just really got my heart racing. Yep, I need to get out of my head. Well, Katrina was always Telling me that I needed to come buy the club and have a few with her, and by the looks of the time she would be getting off in a couple of hours. Screw it I'm leaving on a fun note. I pulled my phone out and texted her, You on for tonight see you at 10. her text was immediate yay! I don't know what tonight would hold but I know that this was gonna be my last night in this city so I was gonna live it up.
