“What do you know about the Head of the Second clan?”
After telling everyone that Raghnall has assigned him one task related to the Second clan, Draken began to pack his bag.
Den sitting on the windowsill answered to his question, “The Head of the Second clan, as I remember myself, I hate him. It always seems to me that he is hiding something, and that something disgusting is hidden behind of his smile.”
“I heard that he killed a man. The soldier of the Third clan.”
“Why? I didn’t know that.”
“I don’t know. But one thing I know for sure, he is playing by his own incomprehensible rules.”
“Listen,” Enlai whispered. “Once, I was in the village of the Second clan. And there, even the soldiers were very strange. They looked like they were scared of something. And it is so quiet there. No sound, nothing. It is scary.”
“Draken you were assigned to keep an eye on Sun right? You know, you can take us with you too. We can help you,” Den said closing the backpack.
Draken looked towards the door and thinking about Storm, he said, “We are not sure about beasts. They might be somewhere around our houses. So you better stay here. After all, we heard a scream. And we with teacher…”
“We? It looks like you and the great warrior Leiandros have become very good friends. I won’t be surprised if you become the next great warrior and then the leader of the clan. Raghnall and Leiandros trust you,” Elijah said throwing a suspicious look at him.
“Our Draken will definitely become one of the warriors who will go down the legend. Not everyone is like you brother Draken. You are brave, smart, strong and also good looking. There is a great future ahead of you. I bet on that,” Den said with a bright smile on his face.
Having laced up his boots, he put on the warmest black fur coat and attached the sword to his belt, looking at Storm’s bed he said, “When brother, no, it doesn’t matter.”
After a second of hesitation, he went out of the house.
“What’s going on between them?” Eagle asked and leaping onto the bed happily said, “Anyway, I am happy that beasts might be somewhere around.”
“Happy? Are you out of your mind?”
“With this situation, with beasts, with the Head of the Second clan, Draken and Leiandros can be together,” Eagle said with a happy smile.
Glancing at each other, everyone shrugged their shoulders and looked at his happy expression.
“It is obvious that something is going on between them. But whatever it is, it doesn’t concern us,” Den loudly said and looked at Galen.
Having met each other at Raghnall’s house, Draken and Leiandros tried to look calm, even if their eyes were shining with the bright glow of excitement.
“Are you ready?” Leiandros awkwardly asked.
“Ready for what?”
“Hit the road,” Leiandros said and stepped closer to him.
“Yes I am ready.”
Hearing Raghnall’s footsteps, they changed their happy expressions.
Approaching them, Raghnall said, “This is for you. It is very cold at night. You will need this.”
Draken took the bundle and felt the warmth. “Stones with dragon fire?!” he exclaimed.
Raghnall looked at them once more and then approvingly shook his head. “Be careful. I rely on you two.”
“Yes Master.”
Walking in unison they tried to keep the distance between them. Draken, feeling the warm stones in his backpack looked at Leiandros who with a straight posture was walking ahead. Draken quickly took out one stone which burned his fingers and said, “Here. Put it in your backpack. It will be much warmer.”
“I am fine,” Leiandros replied trying to look serious.
But Draken didn’t listen to him. He stopped him and opened his backpack. “Let me take care of you,” he whispered in his ear.
The corner of Leiandros’ mouth flinched, his eyes shone with the brightest lights. After making sure that there was no one around them, he suddenly pulled Draken to himself and quickly kissed him.
“What are you doing? Someone might see us.”
“It is just two of us here. And so, it will be while we are on the way,” Leiandros said with cunningness in his bright eyes.
“What are you hinting at? You! Wait!” Draken exclaimed and ran after him.
Towards the evening, when the blizzard began to walk between the houses, everyone heard a loud voice in the yard.
Looking out the window, with sleepy eyes, Den asked, “Who’s that screaming out there? We are sleeping! Be quiet!”
Hearing rapid steps that were heading towards their house, Den grabbed the sword. And when someone opened the door, Den without hesitation attacked him.
“You! Stop it!” someone shouted and pushed Den away from himself so hard that he fell down.
“Leidolf? What are you doing here?”
Standing in front of him, Leidolf put his backpack to the floor and took off his heavy coat. “You are so lazy. All of you. Get up and go to the training field.”
“But teacher, what are you doing here? Teacher Leiandros has been sent on a mission, Master Raghnall said that we can rest for a bit,” Enlai said through the blanket.
Taking his gloves off, Leidolf replied, “Master Raghnall called me to replace Leiandros. Don’t waste all this time just by sleeping. So get up now! And you, bring me some tea.”
Shivering from cold, everyone began to put on their uniforms. (The uniforms of each clan looked almost the same. A warm vest, inside of which was a shirt with small buttons. Warm pants and heavy boots. But the only distinguishing feature of each clan’s uniform were the small emblems on belts. The First clan had an emblem in the form of one sword on the background of a round surface, the Second clan had an emblem in the form of two swords and the Third clan had an emblem in the form of three swords.)
Lining up in front of Leidolf who was drinking hot herbal tea, Den said, “Let me ask you, what exactly are we going to do during these days? I guess we will learn how to plant vegetables and fruits. I think it is better than running.”
Finishing the tea, Leidolf said, “So you want to be lazy. Well, if you want to plant vegetables, then you can help me. I think all of you remember how to plant potatoes. Because this time you have to plant thousands of potatoes in one day.”
“What?!” Eagle exclaimed.
“It is better than running. So let’s go now.”
Pinching Den’s hand Eagle whispered, “Why did you say that it is better to plant vegetables? You always cause problems.”
“You have to thank me. We won’t sweat on the field. Better to plant potatoes.”
Continuing the usual path through the forest, Draken feeling tired, stopped and looked up at the sky.
The pale sky stretched into infinity, promising an impending blizzard. Looking at the rows of trees, life seemed to be repetitive and only thoughts gave new images to everything.
Throwing his backpack off, Draken climbed a tree. Clinging to a branch, he was hanging upside down.
“Let’s take a break. I am tired.”
“We have to go,” Leiandros said.
Draken pulled his head and kissed him. Smilingly he said, “Please. Just a few minutes.”
Looking at him, Draken made a cute face so that Leiandros couldn’t resist. Throwing his backpack off, Leiandros, pushing off from the tree, quickly climbed up and now was already next to Draken.
Draken climbed to another branch and said, “Try to catch me.”
“Well, you asked for it yourself.” Leaping with dexterity, Leiandros swaying from side to side, jumped to another branch.
“You are good at climbing trees. Probably before, you spent a lot of time on trees. Hiding from everyone and reading your books,” Draken said sitting on the highest branch.
Climbing up, Leiandros sat down opposite him, a long strand of hair was covering his face. “You’re right, I often climbed the tallest trees. You won’t believe how many books I read while sitting on a tree. And my father was looking for me everywhere. He didn’t like the fact that I love reading. He wanted to see me on the training field.”
“Your father, he was also one of the greatest warriors, why did he create you then? As far as I know, if a person shows the talent and strength of the great warrior, then he doesn’t need to create a child.”
“When my father was 25 years old, he was a simple warrior. Like everyone else. And therefore, like everyone else, he was obliged to leave an heir. He became one of the greatest warriors at the age of 30,” Leiandros answered looking somewhere ahead.
“I see. And when he became the great warrior, he expected this from you too. But you were lazy,” Draken said pulling Leiandros closer to him.
Several birds flew past them. Snowflakes were slowly falling down.
Draken took Leiandros’ hand and whispered, “Are you cold? I can bring the stone with dragon fire.”
“No. I am fine. But if you want to keep me warm, then I know a better way.” Leiandros whispered and lightly touched his cheek which made Draken tremble.
“What do you suggest?”
The next moment, Leiandros kissed him with greediness and then whispered, “How long I have been waiting for this.”
Wandering on Leiandros’ broad back with his hands, Draken said as quietly as possible, “Do you want it right here?”
“And let all the trees be witnesses,” Leiandros replied and took off his coat. Pressing Draken to the tree he smiled.
“Wait Leiandros.”
Feeling his hands somewhere where his mind stopped thinking, Draken with a quick movement sat on Leiandros’ lap. He lowered his head and said, “It is good that branches are strong.”
Like this, he began to move up and down, making the forest witness their love.
