23 By the time I exited the Midnight Cauldron, I was starving. Thankfully, Killian had been right at the door. He had come back before I left, like he said. As we walked down Bourbon Street, I told him about what had happened with Khalisa—about not being able to see any family members because the voodoo magic didn’t want to help, and about the images from the items. Then, I convinced him to join me at a bakery and sit outside, on the second-floor balcony overlooking Bourbon Street. A large awning covered the balcony, but even so Killian had the collar of his jacket up and wore sunglasses.
