Chapter Two: Shall We Date?

2651 Words
Jade’s POV.     Aaron. Stone. As in the Beta of our pack?      What are the chance’s he’d ever come striding into my dusty old library. It must be fate. Thank the Moon Goddess, he’s perfect.          I look up at him, he’s so tall. I stand at just over 5’9”, so the fact that I have to look this far up at him is saying a lot. He has cords of muscle running through his forearms, and his black T-Shirt looks like it’s ready to burst with how tight it sits around his biceps. My mate is a freaking Adonis. I feel like I’m drooling.      “It’s nice to meet you too Aaron” I sigh. “Jade?” He hums. “Yes?”  “Can I…Would it be okay if I maybe…” He seems to be nervous, which I find quite endearing considering he’s a Greek God talking to a plane Jane like me. “If I came back here in a few hours after I finish a few things up at work, and took you out on a date?”      I blush profusely and say, “Why would you want to do that?” I ask, honestly curious. Does he feel the mate bond too? I can feel the electricity sparking between us as he inches closer to me and stands just close enough that I can see his Adam’s apple bob up and down as he takes a deep breath and says, “I’ve waited what feels like a lifetime to meet you, and now that I’ve found you, I must admit I am having a rather hard time refraining from marking you as mine right here, right now” His voice rumbles like a summer storm and sends shivers down my spine and heat exploding in my belly.      “However,” He starts talking again his breath tickling my ear as he whispers “I want to do this right, I don’t want to just claim you, I want to deserve you, and get to know you first…” a pause. “,and then I’ll make you mine forever” He says with a  matter of fact tone and a devilish grin. A puddle, I am a freaking puddle, my knees turn to mush and give way under my weight. Aaron wraps his arms around me to support me.      “I’ve waited a lifetime too.” I whisper and he growls in pleasure and pulls me tighter to his chest, I wrap my arms around him and grip his strong back for support. At the exact same moment we both take a deep breath and exhale like we just got home after the longest day ever.      “You smell amazing” He mumbles into my hair. “And you’re beautiful, and perfect. How is it you were here all this time and I never crossed paths with you at the pack house, or even in the woods surrounding us, and never smelled you? I feel like I should have met you forever ago and I feel slighted.”      I giggle because I know exactly how he feels. “Maybe there’s a reason the moon Goddess waited until now to light your path to me.” He sighs. “Maybe” We stand there holding each other for what feels like forever, when Aaron says “s**t! I was supposed to get some information for Alpha Evan and bring it back ASAP, if I don’t get back soon he’ll come looking for me, and I really don’t need to deal with that tantrum today.”      “Well what do you need?” I ask. “You wouldn’t happen to know where Alpha Evan’s Family lineage history is, would you.” I laugh and grab his hand, running through the stacks. “I know where everything is in here, the packs history has been protected and recorded by my family for two centuries, so it’s kind of my job to know where everything is kept.”      I pull him to the shelf just beyond my desk that’s stores the most important pack information. I grab my keys and unlock the glass doors and slide them back. Let’s see the book Aaron need’s is, ah there! The top shelf, I look around for something to stand on, when I suddenly feel like I am floating in midair. “Need a boost?” Aaron say with the sweetest of smiles plastered to his face, I blush as I realize his hands have a firm grip around my thighs. I push the rampant butterflies down and reach for the book.      “Here you go” I gleam. He then spins me around and slides me down his chest with nothing but our Alpha’s family linage to separate us. “Thank you” He says, as he caresses my cheek, sparks erupt on my flesh where his rough fingers touch my smooth skin.      “Jade?” My name has never sounded so good. “Hmm?” I hum, content “You never…you never answered me,” He stumbles over the hidden obstacles in his throat “will you go on a date with me?”      His smile falters, when I take just a little too long to respond to him. With cheeks the shade of the ripest tomato in the pack garden I say, “Yes Aaron.”   Aaron’s POV     “Yes Aaron.” I close my eyes and replay her words over and over in my head before I feel her shift in my arms, she’s pulling away, and I can’t help but feel a bit sad.      “Don’t you need to get those to the Alpha?” she smirks up at me playfully, a complete 180 from her previous shy demeanor. Something tells me a raging forest fire lurks somewhere in my quiet mate’s soul, and suddenly I can’t wait to play with matches.      “I’ll be here at 7:00, be ready and dress warm.” I place a lingering kiss on her forehead and force myself to turn and walk away, a smirk playing on my lips. ...     I slam through the back door of the pack house, I’m going to be late. s**t! I curse at myself, if I’m late I just know that whiney Alpha is going to make me miss my date with Jade. I glance at the Grandfather clock in the living room as I pass through trying not to draw attention to myself and my quick pace.  One. f*****g. Minute.      Screw this, I take off full speed through the house, I run into a female omega as she comes out of a bedroom carrying an arm full of laundry. Clothing litters the hall, I mumble an apology as I bound over her kneeling body. I make a mental note to formally apologize later, but I can’t mess up my first date with my mate.      I make a sharp turn sliding on the rug lining the hall, thank the Moon Goddess for werewolf reflexes. One final turn and I’m trying to calm my rapid breaths outside the Alpha’s door. I knock, not waiting for an answer as I stroll right in.      Alpha Even has his back to me, his imported leather chair turned towards his desk as he stares out the enormous floor to ceiling window. “Alpha? I brought the records you needed.” Even sighs, and spins his chair to face me.      “Thank you Aaron.” Did the whiney brat just say thank you? Somebody pinch me, I meet my mate and get a thank you from the Alpha in the same day, I must be dreaming. I can feel the shock on my face and close my dropped jaw before the Alpha can notice my flabbergasted expression.      Before I can stop myself I ask, “Alpha, if you don’t mind me asking, is everything alright?” I kick myself mentally as I watch his blue eyes light up. Oh great, I just gave the little prick exactly what he wanted. “Well since you’ve asked.” He grins and motions for me to have a seat. I sit myself down on the brown leather couch across from his desk and wait for the torture to begin.      “My father is wanting me to hurry and find our Luna. I have told him a million times that I don’t need a Luna to help me rule over my pack.” I gag internally at his phrasing, “rule” yeah right. I may be the Beta of this pack, but my Alpha is not really worthy of respect, he’s a whiney spoiled brat. I miss the days when his father Samuel was Alpha, he may have been a bit stern, but at least he was respectable. His wannbe prince of a son on the other hand is absolutely embarrassing. I stand at 6’5” and tower over him by at least 3 inches, he’s pretty small by normal Alpha standards, and I have beaten him in hand to hand combat more times than should have ever happened. He always makes up an excuse, but I just think he lacks the natural ability.      My mother feels I should be Alpha, but those in my bloodline have been the betas of this pack for as long as it has existed. The Crimson Moon pack deserves a better Alpha then this prick, but I am not sure that’s me.      “Hellllllloooooo? Earth to Aaron!? Are you even listening to me? You asked me to tell you what’s wrong, and then you just zone out while I speak?” I cough, and straighten focusing on the Alpha. “My apologies Alpha, please continue.” He smirks at me with the most arrogant smile in his arsenal and continues. “As I was saying stone, my father wishes me to find our Luna so I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon to travel to our neighboring packs in search of my mate.”      Wow he’s actually leaving to do something productive, I hope I don’t have to accompany him, I just found Jade and I don’t think I could stand leaving her. Definitely not, my wolf growls just at the thought.      “So Stone, you’ll be left here to look after things, my father will be a mind link away if a problem should arise. Try not to ruin the pack while I’m away.” He laughs finding himself quite amusing. “Yes sir, best of luck finding our future Luna.” I say stone faced. “Who needs luck when you look like this?” he’s swipes his hands down his chest while arching an eyebrow. Ugh could this guy be any more obnoxious? I give him a pity chuckle as he finally dismisses me.      I head down stairs and when I see the time on the big grandfather clock I’m shocked, how that only took an hour, when I was sure it had been a century, is beyond me. 1 o’clock, that gives me six hours to prepare to woo the pants off my mate, I can feel my eyes darken at the thought, okay poor choice of words, calm down buddy we have to be patient, but a cold shower couldn’t hurt, let’s start there.   Jade’s POV       It’s been four hours since Aaron left me in a haze, and I’m going stir crazy. Never have I wanted to leave my favorite place on Earth, and rampage the village looking for someone, but I was about ready to grab the pitch forks and torches, and take myself on a man hunt. Not that I’d hurt him, just anyone else that crossed my path, I would turn anyone into a bloody carcass to get to him. This mate bond stuff is really intense      “Jade, that was a bit dark even for me, and I’m supposed to be the primal animal part of you. So take a deep breath, and CALM THE f**k DOWN!” My wolf bellowed in my ear, maybe she was right, but I’m just worried my vivid imagination has completely made him up and that he won’t come back to see me.      The clock strikes five, and I immediately lose my s**t. Two hours!? How have I daydreamed so much time away, I only have two hours to get ready, and mentally sane enough to see my mate. I leave my perch at the top of the spiral stair case leading to the upper level of the library and run up two more flights of stairs before I reach my bedroom.      I slam open the rich black door to my room, and cringe as it bangs into the wall. Oops, that’s going to leave a dent, mom is going to kill me. “Jade worry about that later, get your shlumpy ass in gear and get presentable for our mate!”     On it! I scurry into my walk in closet and rummage through the Sea of black that is my wardrobe. I throw off my clothes, and pull on a pair of black skinny jeans with holes across the knees, and a slouchy grey sweater that is a bit over sized falling slightly off my shoulder exposing my bare collarbone and the black lace strap of my brallette.      I spin around and look in the mirror. “Perfect” My wolf purrs. I give my reflection a smile and pray Aaron thinks so too.      Once I step out of my closet the nerves start to set in, I have exactly one hour and fifteen minutes left. I can hear the minutes pounding away in my ears. I grab my makeup bag and dump everything out on my matte black bedspread. Now what to use to beat this face. I grab my foundation brush and put on the palest shade known to man. I’d like to say it’s genetic that I’m this pale, but even both my parents are at least three shades darker than me, maybe it’s the lack of sun.      I rarely ever go outside during the day, I much prefer the way the moon paints the world in ribbons of light, shining through the dark, compared to the way the sun just pours out a bucket full of it.      I decide on a dark red lip and a simple cat eye. Thank the Moon Goddess I didn’t smudge my eyeliner for once, I don’t want Aaron to think he’s Mated to a raccoon. Just as I am tying up my converse I realize I have forgotten to do something with my hair as a curtain of brown red curls fall into my face. I lift them up taking a glance at my alarm clock, it reads 6:55, five minutes, which is not nearly enough time to do something about my unruly curls. I rake my fingers through my hair and call it good, leaving my bedroom to head downstairs, I hear the bells ring as the front door opens.
