Prologue

Jade’s POV     “Jade!” My mother’s melodious voice interrupts one of the best parts of my newest novel. “Mom it was just getting good.” I whine.      “Sorry sweetheart, you can get back to it in just a second, I just wanted to talk to you. Your father and I are leaving for a meeting with the former Alpha and Luna, I think they are hoping I can prophesize who the future Luna will be. They are growing very anxious that Evan has yet to find his mate at 20.”          I roll my eyes at the mere mention of our Alpha, he’s not really respectable and is quite the spoiled brat. Even before he was given the title of Alpha, he would walk around bossing everyone around, and run crying to his mommy when things didn’t go his way. Honestly I feel bad for whatever poor girl ends up being his mate.      “Maybe he doesn’t have a mate mom, the Moon Goddess couldn’t be that cruel to someone, right?” I chuckle at my comment.      “Jade Alexandria Black, you hold your tongue, the Alpha may be a bit whiney, and okay a little spoiled, but he is still the Alpha and we are to respect him and his family.” I smile sheepishly and look down. “Yes mam.”     “Well dad and I need to leave, hold down the fort while we are away. Oh! Also, could you put away that stack of new children’s books I left on your desk? There has been a lot more interest in reading with the little’s so I ordered some things.” I nod at her in reply. “Thanks sweetheart, have a great day. Love you.” My mother bounces over to me, kissing my cheek, and then she’s off before I can even say love you back.      I don’t know how we are related sometimes, she’s always so full of life and color. While I on the other hand dwell in the black and white pages of books, only ever leaving our library when the first beam of moonlight caresses the village. I guess I’m a lot like my dad in that way, my mother has always said they are as different as day and night, but I think that’s why their marriage is so beautiful, they make up for what the other lacks, and their similarities may be few, but the ones they have are what’s important.      I sigh dreamily thinking of the day my mate will walk into my life. I dream of a mating like what my parents share, which in my eyes is perfect. My mate will be strong and masculine, but also a bit sensitive only with me, and he’ll be kind and honest and just. If only he would come for me faster, I’m 19 and I’ll turn 20 within the next few months. We can sense our mates the day of our 18th birthday, and so far I’ve had no luck, which is rather worrisome for someone who doesn’t like to travel.                  ~      A breeze passes through the open window beside my desk and the most glorious scent collides with my senses, but then it disappears even faster than it came. Hmmm, my wolf sighs.
