The Lost Wolf

Chapter 2

LIAM’S POV

            “Who was that?!” I growled at my Beta James.  “She is my mate.  But no human comes in these woods.  How did they find our territory?!”   I feel an overwhelming confusion within me as I try to sort out these thoughts.

            How can this be, she is human.  But she didn’t fear me which astounded me.  I just don’t understand how this could happen.  I expected a strong wolf to be my Luna.  Not a human.

            I wanted to approach her as soon as I felt the mating bond consume me, but that can’t happen in my wolf form.  I don’t want to scare her nor can I let her know about the existence of werewolves.  But, I have this deep longing within me to see her again and to just be near her.  She was breathtakingly beautiful with stunning blue eyes which were the color of the ocean. She had this intense confident stare towards me. I cannot get her image out of my mind. 

            “I’ll follow them so I can get information about this young lady for you Alpha Liam.” James replied back to me before he quickly tore off to catch up to them.

            “Make sure you keep your distance so she does not see you.” I share to him within our thoughts.

            I want to follow as well, but I don’t think I will be able to control my feelings if I get near her so I slowly make my way back to our packs mansion so I can figure out the confusion within me. 

            “Back so soon?!” my sister Cordelia says to me as I walk in through the doors breaking through my distracted thoughts.  “I thought you boys were going to be out there all night checking out our territory to make sure all is well.”

            “Something came up.” I quickly say as I make my way to my office.  I want to tell her about my mate.  We have never kept secrets from one another, but I have to figure things out before I bring turmoil into the pack.  We’ve never had a human know of our existence in these woods before.  We will have to put up precautions to protect ourselves and to continue keeping our existence a secret from them from here on out.

JAMES POV

            As I follow this young lady, I smell something quite familiar but not a smell in which I wish to be near.  What is that smell of, I think to myself.  I take a strong sniff again of the air surrounding me.

            “Witch, they are witches!” my wolf screams within me.  But why didn’t Liam’s mate smell of as a witch.  She must be a non-witch.  But that doesn’t make sense to me.  Why would a non-witch be living amongst a family of witches?

            I watch carefully from a distance, so I am not noticed.  I do not wish to be confronted by these witches.  Many are known for being dangerous and I am unfamiliar with this family.

            “Ava,” I hear her friend confront Liam’s mate.  “What were you thinking going near the wolf?  You could have been killed.”

            So her name is Ava.  I still don’t understand what is happening before me, but I continue listening before returning to my Alpha. 

            “I don’t think that wolf was dangerous.  It seemed….kind of, peaceful.  I don’t really know how to explain it.” She seems different from the others, almost as if she doesn’t belong here.  Something is off about this home and the large scent of witches surrounding this non-witch.

            I quickly make my way back to the pack to inform my Alpha of what I have just discovered.  This is interesting news, and one in which I’m sure he will not be too excited to hear about.

            As I start to leave, I am approached by someone, a male witch. “Why are you here?!  This is not part of your territory.  You are to stay away or we will have to deal with you and you will not like with what we will have in mind.”

            “I was just leaving.” I say as I depart back into the forest back to my pack.  I do not fear them because I am a strong wolf with one of the strongest packs, but I do know how dangerous they are and what damage they can cause our pack.  I do not wish to start anything at the moment.  I fear that there will be a point in which we will have to, with this young lady being our Alphas mate.  A mates bond is strong, and he will not be able to withstand his feelings for long.

AVA’S POV

            “Alex, what are you doing out here.” How did I not see him out here as I watched him stroll back into my direction from the forest.  Did he follow me out there?  But I could have sworn he was inside before we walked out there.

            “You know you are not supposed to be near the forest.  Your parents will be upset with you if they found out where you were tonight.”

            He’s acting kind of strange as he stares into the forest before returning his stare back towards me.

            “Please, don’t tell them.” I plead with him.

            “Don’t worry, I’ll keep your secret.  But you must promise me that you won’t go in those woods again.  There are a lot of dangerous animals out there and I just don’t want to see my love get hurt.  It would kill me knowing that you were put in danger sweetheart.  Come on, let’s go back inside and watch a movie.”

            As I head back inside, disappointed that I got caught tonight, I keep thinking of that wolf and the feeling in which enveloped within me.  I strangely feel connected to this wolf and the need to go back into those woods.  I should be feeling fear of the occurrences of tonight, but I just don’t feel that within me.

            I will have to find a way to go back out there to explore, but I will have to be more cautious to not get caught.
