Fresh out of work, Jai and Kiki spent a few days bemoaning their bad luck. They never received their final paychecks; the owners of the salon owed too much money to too many people, and the employees were just s**t out of luck. Jai drew unemployment benefits for a while, but he found it hard to get another job at a high-end salon when his previous employer was unavailable as a reference. He didn’t want to go back to a cookie-cutter salon, but he needed to make money somehow. Which was when Kiki brought up the idea of opening a place of his own. No—their own. She wanted to go in with him on it, and because he couldn’t think of a good reason not to do it, he agreed to give it a shot.
