CHAPTER8

Lyra(Mia) POV My words seized in my throat as I came face to face with the person I had bumped into. I had expected for it to be a guest that was probably been distracted. “Nyla?” I muttered under my breath in confusion. I wasn't expecting to see her there or anywhere soon for that matter. My nemesis couldn't be standing in front of me right now. Someone tell me that I wasn't staring into the same face that I had been haunting my dreams. My eyes must be playing tricks on me. “Can you watch where you are going?” I asked when I saw her raise her eyebrows. I'm sure she didn't expect me to know her. “I'm sorry I was in a rush. Are you okay?” I gave a simple nod, studying her. Those were those dark eyes all over again. But this time it didn't look back at me with disgust. Its gaze was that of admiration, of respect. Her lips wore a bright smile proudly. She was draped in a pretty dress, her pose filled with poise. Standing before me was my twin sister Nyla. I had thought when she saw me the joy would glide from her eyes. It didn't. Then the realisation sunk in. She wasn't seeing me as the twin sister she had ordered her henchmen to stab in the belly. She was seeing me as someone else; Mia. My memory spun bringing me flashbacks of the last time that I had seen her. How I wanted to pay her back for the mockery she had made of me! “Yes. Next time watch where you are going.” If there was a sword in my hand I would have buried it in her stomach before I could think twice. “I'm so sorry, Luna Mia,” she said with a curt smile and a slight bow. “Forgive my clumsiness. I was just looking for my husband.” She wouldn't stop giggling. Her husband? Has she dumped Xander and married another man now? I can't believe this. “There you are babe,” a voice muttered joining her side and planting a kiss on her lips. I looked over at this strange. But it was no stranger. It was the only man that I ever loved. It was Xander. There he was. The man who has accused me of cheating when he has been sleeping with my sister behind my back. He was looking different. Beards were shooting out from his chin. His shoulders had taken a more broad form and fitted in his clothes. Then there was that smile on his face whenever he stared into Nyla’s eyes. If I didn't know the history behind their union I would have envied what they had. That should have been me and him. It should have been just us; Alpha and Luna ruling over our pack. My life would have been a lot more blissful had it taken that path. I wouldn't have had to live in a cage or marry a monster. The thought of what could have been tormented me. Tears knocked on my eyes but I shut the door. “Hello, Luna. Nice to meet you,” Xander said, snapping me from my reverie. “I'm afraid I can't say the same. Who are you two?” I asked in a mean tone. Now they were in my territory . I didn't have to worry about raising my voice too loud or having to act in a pleasing manner to either of them. “We are Alpha Xander Bennett and Nyla Draven; rulers of Moonstone Pack,” Lyra squealed excitedly. “It's a pleasure to be in your presence, Luna Mia. Your pack is lovely.” For someone with a dark heart, she acted so benign. Little did she know that I could see through her cover and knew who she truly was. “Welcome,” I managed to mutter and keep myself composed. For all I know they had no issues with Mia. The only fists that were clutching on the sides was that of Nyla. “Thank you for hosting us. We should get going. I wouldn't want to keep you waiting more than we should.” She said, locking hands with Xander. I saw the gesture and gulped hard. Was that jealously? It better not be! I nodded, waiting for them to walk off but Xander wouldn't stop looking at me. His eyebrows furrowed as he kept staring in a puzzled manner. “What is going on, honey? It's time to to go on about,” Nyla said trying to pull Xander away. Then he stopped in his tracks, his eyes lighting up in excitement. At this point, I was wondering why he was being persistent. I just hoped that he had already recognised me to be Lyra? Or did he? “Wait, honey. can't you see? This woman looks so much like your twin sister, Lyra.” He dropped the bomb and immediately the smile on my sister's face cleared. My name changed her mood from excited to despiteful. She took another glance at me, this time with hawk eyes. “You're right. I see the resemblance.” “Who are you two referring to?” I asked with a flat, disinterested tone. She waved me off playfully. “Oh, my husband is just bringing up the dead. He is referring to my late twin sister and how you kind of look like her. But I think you look a lot more beautiful.” My hand bawled into fists. I had to put them behind me to avoid the cherry couple noticing. “I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your sister,” I said, playing dumb. She cleared he throat, scratching her neck. “I'm sorry did my question make you uncomfortable?” “Not at all. It's just that my twin sister was a w***e who slept around and brought disgrace to the family. Before she could be punished, she ran away from the pack.” That was a hell of a story and none of itveas true. “That's sad to hear. Did you all check for her?” “No. It was good riddance to bad rubbish.” Uneasy about to knock her out. There is no way she is going to talk down on me after the betrayal stunt she had pulled. My action was halted when we were joined by Damion. He looked to be in a pissed mood and that anger was about to be poured on me.
