Mia’s POV
“Where the hell have you been? I have been looking all over for you?” Damion barked, not acknowledging that I had guests.
He didn't have to. The two of them were already either overwhelmed or afraid to speak.
That was not unexpected considering the kind of man he was.
“I have been here, My Alpha. I tried talking to you earlier but you've been pushing me away,” I answered keeping my tone low.
“You think you're powerful enough to hang around the kind of people I walk with?”
“If you let me into your circle, you can find out that I'm smarter than you think I am.”
“Yeah? And what else am I going to find out? That you're a traitor who was waiting all this while to stab me in the back?”
“Please lower your voice,” I begged. Everyone had turned their attention to me. “Is this how you're supposed to treat your wife?”
He scoffed. “You expect me to show you love?” He grabbed my arm and pulled me close. His grip on my hand was right.
“You're hurting me. Please stop.”
“Get this through your head. I'll never be kind to a lowly cursed werewolf like you. Now wrap up your conversation and get prepared to leave soon back to your cage where you belong.”
He left my hand only after he was done. By the time he walked off, all eyes were on me.
I could head the whisperings loud and clear.
“I can already tell this Luna is not the right fit for Alpha Damion.”
“He is treating her like a slave more than his wife.”
They were coming from all angles of the room. I could even hear the low snickers and chuckles all aimed at making mockery of me.
I could not take it anymore. I ran out the townhall to it's courtyard. It was the only place I could be alone.
Taking a seat on one of the concrete steps, I broke down in tears. Damion succeeded in making jest of me at every turn.
Where was my dignity? How could the pack respect me as their Luna when they saw me being tossed around like an item?
I heard the door to the courtyard creak open.
Fuck! I couldn't be in here for long before I had company. Judging by the footsteps, the person were headed for me.
My head still rested on my cradled knees and folded arms as the tears spilled. I ignored the person. It was probably a guard sent by Alpha Damion to watch over me.
“Excuse me, Luna Mia but I think you dropped this,” I heard a masculine voice. It was strikingly similar.
I looked up with moist eyes.
“Xander?”
He was stood in front of me with a handkerchief stretched out in front of me. It didn't look anything like mine. It had to be his.
“Yes, Luna Mia. I saw you run off and I decided I should come and see how you're doing.”
I leaned forward so I could gaze at the door.
“Your wife isn't going to be happy learning that you're in her with me.”
“As long as we are not up to anything naughty, we should be fine.”
The urge to tell him to leave was heavy but I needed company. I was sad. I had to settle for trash company, but it still got the job done.
I grabbed the handkerchief and mopped my face clean from the tears.
“Can I sit beside you?”
A nod answered his question.
“It was really crazy what happened in there,” he started off, running his hand through his sleek dark hair. That action never failed to make him look hotter.
“Dont act like you care. I'm sure you had a good laugh over it just like everyone.”
“Even if I wanted to, I couldn't,” he said, his voice firm. “That was no way to speak to a woman. What makes his action even more worse is that you're his wife.”
“Oh, please,” I scoffed. “Like your treat people better. I have heard the rumours. You hurt people however you please and don't care.”
Take for example me. He was the one who connived with Nyla to kill me. I had been naive before about the kind of man that he is in the past.
He smiled, his dimples showing off. “I agree that those rumors are true. But that was in the past. I’m a changed man now.”
He sounded so convincing. He could have changed his ways but what happens to the people he hurt? People like men who could never be the same again?
“It's the same kind of change that your husband needs. I doubt he is going to make that change for you. You deserve someone better.”
“I know.”
“So why are you still holding on to him when he keeps hurting you?”
“It's complicated. You wouldn't understand.”
He sighed. “I would never treat a beautiful woman like you if you were mine.”
His words lifted my brows. “Are you hitting on me?”
“I'm telling you the truth. You would be spoiled with love.”
That was tempting. I have never been spiked with love. All I have known is hurt and affliction but never affection.
Who am I kidding? This was the same man who had me killed and was currently in love with my sister.
“You've probably said that more women than you can count. Does your wife know you're here?”
“No she doesn't and it is going to stay that way.” He checked his watch. “I have to go now. I have an important meeting with Alpha Damion. Maybe I'll see you around.” He winked at me before heading out in a rush.
I wanted to fight it but his wink was too smooth, the butterflies in my stomach fluttered about. Their flapping wings suppressed the caution from my guts about the man that just walked out.
Wait, he just said he was going to meet Damion? They ere working together. On what?
I immediately jumped up and rushed after him for answers.
