Two days later Emily called to say the owner had agreed to give her away. I was thrilled! Immediately I contacted the local Thoroughbred rescue centers, and within 24 hours had found a temporary home for her. Kathy would take her in, and already knew of at least one person who was interested in her once she’d been retrained as a riding horse. Elated, I phoned Emily with the news. But in the meantime someone else had called wanting to try her out. Secretly relieved this might mean I didn’t have to make that three hour trip to Pennsylvania again, I told Emily to keep me apprised of the outcome. She texted me that Saturday afternoon—no go with the other people. I texted back. I’ll come and get her on Tuesday.
