Ryan stood by the hospital window, his phone gripped tightly in his trembling hand. The sky outside was dull, the clouds gray and heavy, mirroring the weight pressing down on his chest. His fingers hesitated over the screen before he finally tapped his mother’s number. The phone rang only twice before Mrs. Winters picked it up. “Ryan?” Her sharp voice echoed through the speaker.
