SCARLET ♠️ Neither of us moved toward the door. That was the thing. We both knew where the door was, I had come through it two hours ago, the hostess had pointed me in the right direction, it was not a complicated building to navigate. We both knew it was there and we both knew what walking through it meant and we both stood beside the table in the low light of the hotel bar and did not move toward it. Ray picked up his jacket from the booth. I adjusted my bag on my shoulder. We stood there looking at each other with the full knowledge of two adults who understood exactly what the next decision was and exactly what it cost. “I should go,” I said. “Yes,” he agreed.
