Chapter 7: Eliminate

“Sorry, I need to take a call.” Wang Sisi picked up her phone, apologizing. “Alright.” Lin Xuan smiled gently. Wang Sisi answered the call. On the other end, Xu Ting’s voice rang out, “Sisi, why did it take you so long to pick up?” “Ah? Did you call me earlier?” Wang Sisi replied, her expression one of surprise. “Of course I did! I’ve called you several times.” Wang Sisi glanced at her phone and noticed multiple missed calls. Embarrassed, she said, “I’m so sorry, Xu Ting! I was caught up with something earlier.” “I knew it! You must have been busy with work.” “How did you know?” “Am I not familiar with you? Have you finished?” “Yes, I’ve wrapped things up. What did you want to talk about?” “Nothing much, just to let you know that I’m getting a divorce.” “Divorce? What? Why so suddenly?” “Don’t even get me started! I really was blind to have fallen for that guy. I treated him so well, yet he cheated on me emotionally!” “Cheated emotionally?” “It’s true, Sisi…” Xu Ting went on to rant about Lin Xuan’s fabricated love letters, embellishing the story by saying that Lin Xuan used her and even had the audacity to demand a monthly allowance of one million, leading her to finally choose divorce. “That guy is utterly despicable!” Wang Sisi, unaware of the truth, felt a surge of anger. “Forget it; it’s all in the past. I just needed to vent a bit. Perhaps it’s fate that led me to meet Mr. Zhang.” “Then I truly wish you all the best.” “By the way, Sisi, do you remember those pink hair clips we bought at the stall when we were little?” “Of course I remember! Why do you ask?” “I came across them today while organizing some things, and it brought back a flood of memories. They are tokens of our friendship!” “Indeed, I’ve kept my clip safe all this time!” Wang Sisi replied, though she felt a pang of guilt, as hers had been lost long ago. However, to avoid upsetting Xu Ting, she had never mentioned it. Upon hearing this, Xu Ting’s doubts dissipated. It seemed Lin Xuan was not cheating with her best friend. She believed Sisi’s words. After all, could someone like Lin Xuan ever attract her friend? “Sisi, that’s all I wanted to say. You get back to what you were doing; I won’t keep you.” “Alright, Xiao Ting, don’t be too sad. I’ll always be here for you.” Wang Sisi encouraged her. “Okay, thanks.” Xu Ting ended the call. Meanwhile, Lin Xuan felt a jolt in his heart. He had just heard about the hair clips! Indeed, the Wang Sisi before him was that girl from fifteen years ago! Lin Xuan could hardly contain his excitement. “What’s wrong?” Wang Sisi looked at Lin Xuan, whose sudden enthusiasm surprised her. “I’m fine… Just remembered something. Was that your friend who called?” “Yes, it was my best friend; she’s getting a divorce.” Wang Sisi said, revealing nothing to Lin Xuan. “Divorced?” Lin Xuan feigned ignorance. “Yes! That man was utterly abhorrent!” Talking about it made Wang Sisi furious. “Uh…” Lin Xuan tugged at his lips, asking, “Can you tell me what made him so detestable?” “Well…” Wang Sisi recounted Xu Ting’s earlier revelations, growing increasingly agitated. “I can’t believe there are such scoundrels in this world! Being shameless is one thing, but to emotionally cheat as well!” “Ha, yes…” Lin Xuan awkwardly agreed. Could he admit that the scoundrel was indeed him? He knew he had been wronged. While the love letters were real, the claim that he demanded one million in monthly allowances was completely false. Clearly, Xu Ting had smeared his name to hide her own infidelity! Unaware of the truth, Wang Sisi looked at Lin Xuan, who seemed to share her indignation, and said, “Right? You feel the same way. If I encountered such a man who committed such disgusting acts, I would….” “What would you do?” Lin Xuan raised an eyebrow, sensing an ominous premonition. Wang Sisi made a cutting motion with her hand. “Ha ha… that seems rather cruel, doesn’t it?” Lin Xuan felt a chill run down his spine. Wang Sisi realized her gesture was a bit too graphic and stuck out her tongue at him, saying, “Actually… I wouldn’t really do that. I was just too angry. If only all men were like you.” “Ha ha, indeed…” Lin Xuan replied with an awkward smile. “Of course!” Wang Sisi assumed Lin Xuan was being modest, proudly raising her chin. “By the way, I still don’t know your full name; your friend’s call interrupted me earlier.” “Um… you can just call me Mr. Lin for now.” Lin Xuan thought it best to keep his identity hidden for the time being. He didn’t want to end up on the receiving end of Wang Sisi’s cutting gesture. “I find you to be quite humorous.” Wang Sisi smiled brightly. She looked at Lin Xuan, feeling that this man was different from any she had met before. “Then I shall refer to you as Mr. Lin for now.” Wang Sisi clapped her hands and chatted with Lin Xuan a bit longer until her father called, prompting her to part ways. “Mr. Lin, here’s my contact information. I really enjoyed our conversation today. Let’s meet again if we have the chance.” At the café entrance, Wang Sisi reluctantly bid farewell. “Likewise, until next time.” Lin Xuan’s smile remained warm. “Then I’ll take my leave.” After saying this, Wang Sisi glanced back at Lin Xuan before getting into her BMW 320i. The car slowly drove away. Lin Xuan watched as Wang Sisi departed. From their conversation, he could tell the girl was optimistic and principled. He wondered how she would react upon learning he was the “emotionally disturbed” person Xu Ting spoke of. He hoped she wouldn’t truly resort to drastic measures. Lin Xuan chuckled, shaking his head. But he believed that misunderstandings would eventually be resolved. Before that, he had more pressing matters to attend to. He needed to return to the villa and retrieve the hair clip. Since Xu Ting was not the rightful owner, she had no claim to it. Suddenly, Wang Sisi’s phone, resting on the table, vibrated.
