Chapter 3: Compensation

At that moment, Xu Ting and Zhang Wen approached the entrance of the company and unexpectedly collided with Lin Xuan. Xu Ting looked at Lin Xuan, her brows furrowing in disdain. “Lin Xuan, what are you doing here?” “If you’re here, why can’t I be?” Lin Xuan replied coolly. What a small world this was. “Ha!” Xu Ting laughed, her eyes full of mockery. “I’m here to accompany Zhang Shao for a project discussion. And you? Are you here to apply for a security position, or are you unable to let go of me and came begging for a reconciliation? Let me tell you, that’s not happening!” “Reconciliation?” Lin Xuan sneered. “You’re overthinking it; I’m simply back at my own company.” “Your own company?” Xu Ting laughed derisively, looking at Lin Xuan as if he were a joke. “This is Yuanrong Group, the premier firm in Su City, valued at three hundred billion!” “And?” Lin Xuan regarded her with an indifferent gaze. “So, can’t you just stop pretending to be something you’re not?” Seeing Lin Xuan feign calmness infuriated Xu Ting. Lin Xuan frowned. How had he never realized that Xu Ting possessed such a base character? “Enough, Xu Ting. There’s no need to get angry over this,” Zhang Wen interjected. “He’s just trying to save face; let him cling to it. You’re now one of Su City’s top ten outstanding entrepreneurs—he’s only jealous of you.” As he spoke, he cast a contemptuous glance at Lin Xuan. A person like him didn’t deserve to be in his sights. “Lin Xuan, you should learn a thing or two from Zhang Shao about how to carry yourself!” Xu Ting directed at Lin Xuan. Lin Xuan chose to ignore her and attempted to walk past them into the company. “Stop right there!” Xu Ting called out to him. “Is there something else?” Lin Xuan frowned, turning to her. “We haven’t settled the matter of the divorce compensation!” Xu Ting replied coldly. “I don’t need compensation; the divorce is sufficient. And don’t worry, I won’t pester you after this,” Lin Xuan stated as he tried to leave. “Compensation? Am I doing you a favor?” Xu Ting laughed in disbelief at Lin Xuan’s words. “What do you mean by that?” Lin Xuan halted, coldly regarding her. “I’m saying you owe me compensation for the emotional distress caused by our five years of marriage!” “Me causing you emotional distress?” Lin Xuan was taken aback, then couldn’t help but laugh. “You cheated, and you want me to compensate you for emotional distress? Xu Ting, they say a day as husband and wife means a hundred days of grace; have you really become this petty?” “Husband and wife? You think you have the right to say such things?” Xu Ting retorted, her face twisted with derision. “Seeing you makes me feel sick; I never imagined you could be such a perverse person!” “How am I perverse?” Lin Xuan frowned. “Then what’s with all those love letters?” Xu Ting challenged him. Lin Xuan’s gaze shifted. So she had indeed seen them. That meant she must have noticed the hairpin too. Was she really so indifferent?
