The sky gradually dimmed to a murky gray. Darkness slowly coiled around Nathan, dragging him down into an endless abyss. When he closed his eyes, all he could see were the looping images of Jillian falling, then walking away from him for good. He was a caged beast, trapped in an iron cell of cold, crippling fear. He couldn't bring himself to eat during the day, and sleep eluded him entirely at night. Nathan stood rooted to the spot for ages before he slowly turned and walked away.
