TESSA’s POV.
“So this is the day? The day the world’s most powerful and influential CEOs are getting married? And that too all of a sudden?” My make up artist said.
I however ignored her as my mind was a jumble of thoughts and emotions. I, Tessa Castor would be getting married to Lucian Wright, the one man I can not stand.
Soon, I was all dolled up looking like what came out of a plastic surgeon’s catalogue. I hated make up with every drop of blood in my body.
The streets leading to the church were lined with tons of onlookers who were eager to catch a glimpse of I and Lucian as we made our way to the altar.
“We’re here ma’am.” The driver said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
I stepped out of the car, my step sister and father by my side.
“This church is a masterpiece, the best of its kind. It has soaring ceilings and glass windows that cast beautiful rays of light onto the white carpet, the one stretching the length of the aisle.” My step sister, Janice lectured.
But I could not care, this custom made gown of silk and lace was itchy. And I wanted to tear it right off my body and be a free bird.
As I walked down the aisle on my father’s arm, the organ played a beautiful melody. The type I used to hear I cartoons when I was a kid.
I felt nervous cause all eyes were on me as I made my way towards Lucian. I hated to admit it but this man was only getting more handsome every second, and to make things worse his gaze was fixed on my face.
Our wedding was a blur of view that did not come from my heart and then we exchanged rings and finally pressed lips on each other.
I felt sparks in my tummy, but I did not want the kiss to end. It felt so good, that I let out a frustrated groan when Lucian pulled back.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The priest said and the crowd let out a sigh of relief and their clapping filled the air.
“That’s that. How did you pull off so much glam in one night?” I asked Lucian as soon as we were seated in the car.
“Like I said, taco and CEO.” Lucian sneered.
“I will hit you.” I warned.
“Seriously wifey? We just got married and you want to hit me?” Lucian mumbled.
The limousine whisked us away to the reception where a lavish dinner awaited us.
“Remember wifey be natural.” Lucian said and we stepped out of the car.
Throughout the evening, I and Lucian were the center of attention and most people tried to her about our future plans and also gossip on our past.
I carefully evade their questions without saying too much, for the fear of contradicting whatever Lucian might have said.
As the evening wore on, I and Lucian were still caught in the flurry of handshakes and well wishers. Soon, we slipped out of the reception and finally had a moment to catch our breath.
“Well...Mrs Wright,” Lucian said, his hand resting gently on my back as we made our way to the waiting car. “I think it is safe to say we pulled off the wedding of the century.”
I shot him a wry smile, my face covered in exhaustion. “Century? I would say we pulled of the wedding of a hundred centuries . We are the most talked about couple in the world right now.”
Lucian smiled, his smile warm and genuine
“I am starting to think our new title should be ‘the crazy overnight couple of the business world, with the hashtag controversial under it.” He teases, helping me into the car.
I laughed, letting go of some of the tension from the day slipping away. “Oh I think we are far too charming for that title. How about ‘the overnight Romeo and Juliet?’ Or ‘Cupid’s CEOs?”
“Ooh, I like the sound of Cupid’s CEOs.” Lucian said with a grin sliding into the seat next to me as the cal pulled away from the curb.
As we drove through the streets, the city lights streaked across the window of the crazy. The silence in the car was not awkward but rather comfortable, I was lost in the own thoughts about the day’s events.
“You know,” I said, breaking the quiet. “I have to admit, I am impressed with your ability to convince me to go through with this fake marriage.”
Lucian smirked. “Oh, come on, Castor .. we both know you were dying to show off your dress to the world.
I let out a laugh, shaking my head. “That dress was worth every penny, even though it was itchy, but do not think for a second that that was why I want through with this. You, Lucian put up a convincing argument.”
“Oh, is that your way of saying I am charming?” Lucian teased, a playful glint in his eye.
I rolled my eyes, though the corners of my mouth twitched in amusement.
“Do not get ahead of yourself, Wright. I said your argument was convincing not you or your charm.”
“Well...it is my charm and I am charm so basically you just agreed that I am charming.” Lucian said.
“Cocky pants.” I teased.
As the car pulled up to the front of the penthouse, Lucian helped me out of the car, his hand lingering on my waist for just the right amount of time. “What a gentleman.” The voice in my head said.
As we stepped inside, the air changed and now the silence was filled with questions and concerns.
My mind was a jumble of thoughts, as I tried to understand what I just got myself into.
I finally broke the quiet, my voice softer than before. “Sebastian, I need to know. Are we in this for a long time or is this just a temporary thing?”
