Chapter Four A Fateful Trip Janice hardly slept. What do these people want from me? she thought miserably, her face buried in her pillow, the covers pulled up over her head. When the Asian man had left, she cried for an hour. She had never been treated so cruelly. It was about 2 A.M. when she was finally able to gather herself. She knew that she couldn’t call the police. She dared not call any of her friends lest they get mixed up in this. She was sure that the phone was tapped. That also left out her mother or her sister in Ashtabula. She could just take off and run, but she had no money and no means of transportation. And where would she go? She realized dismally that she really had no choice but to obey the Asian man’s instructions. It was almost dawn when Janice finally nodded off.
