I hurriedly tug up my tights as Alec stalks to the door, nearly ripping it off its hinges to confront the men on the other side. There's a collective gasp from the doorway, and I peek around Alec's aggressive stance to find two officers with hats in hand, bobbing apologetically.
"Sorry, man. We got a call for a disturbance. Something about yelling and loud noises coming from the apartment. I mean, we gotta come check it out. We didn't know you were..."
The officer not consumed with apologizing profusely inhales sharply as I step from behind Alec, "Well, hello beautiful," he beams in what I assume must be his precursor to some horrifying come-on line, "you smell delicious." Yep. That is definitely horrifying.
And then Alec starts growling. Like actual animalistic growling, sweeping me behind his back, he goes into full-on ass kicking mode. The officer that'd been consumed with apologizing starts in wringing his hands, "He's new Alec. He hasn't heard. Donald, it's Finn's son. You f*****g i***t this is Finn's son. His mate. She's his mate."
"Bullshit." Donald responds, "Finn's son isn't mated. And that piece of ass hiding behind this one hasn't been claimed. She's fair game." he fairly spits the last in Alec's face.
I'm not sure what's happening beneath the spoken words, but Alec suddenly has Donald by the throat, and the first cop isn't doing s**t to stop him.
"My mate will accept your apology," he growls, lifting Donald to his toes, "and I'll refrain from tearing out your throat for the disrespect."
"Ooookay," I cry, clapping my hands for attention. I am a teacher after all. "Thank you Donald for that stellar compliment. I really appreciate knowing I smell like food. And, Alec if you could please put the nice officer down. That will be all for today. You can all leave. Everything's fine here. Clearly you know what was actually going on. Yep. That's great go ahead and put that in your report. Wild s*x. No murders happening. So, goodbye."
I wave my fingers at them as they all stare at me as though I've grown multiple heads. But, you know. I've about had it. Wolf transformations. Being told I'm in heat and apparently smell appetizing. That's enough for today. I go upstairs and leave Alec to kill or not kill a police officer. I climb under the covers of my bed and decide hiding from the world for a bit wouldn't be a bad bit of business. Sometime later, I feel the mattress dip beside me and recognize Alec's scent as he wraps his arms around my waist. I snuggle closer and go back to sleep.
