Behind Those Eyes

Anna Pov

They finally let me out of the safe room. I was starting to go crazy but Emma did her best to keep me calm. All I wanted to do was to find Devin and see if he was alright for myself. Steve told me that everything was fine but I still have an uneasy feeling. I headed up to our room full of anxiety for some reason. It must be because I know Devin was in some type of battle. Clearly, he must have won but still; it’s been a long time since I’ve been around werewolves fighting. I entered our room to find Devin standing there with my hair dye and contacts in his hand. In the midst of all of the commotion; I forgot that I even bought that. Someone must have brought them up to the room. “Care to explain?” Devin asked while holding the items up to me. I stayed silent. I know he’s my mate and I’m supposed to trust him but I haven’t told anyone about me concealing my true identity. “Anna, whatever it is, we can face it together. I’m your mate. You have to trust that I won't get up and run or do anything to hurt you” Devin said. I stood still with my brain and my heart fighting each other. Devin walked up to me and pulled me into his arms. I immediately melted. I hadn’t realized just how much I missed him and how scared I was to lose him. I buried my nose into his chest and inhaled his scent. He smelled like coffee, rain, and his body wash. I took his hand and led him over to the bed to sit. I took a deep breath and mustered up all the courage I had to tell him what I was keeping from everyone, “After I escaped from Alpha Marcus, I became paranoid about everything. I felt like he would just find me again and again until I couldn’t escape any more. My pack promised to protect me if I moved back within the lands but that felt too close. You see, I just figured out that I’m actually not too far from my old pack. They are in Northern California and Alpha Marcus was located somewhere in the middle. I knew if I stayed he would easily be able to point me out because my hair and my eyes are very unique. My hair is naturally red and my eyes are a golden color. So, to conceal myself from him I started wearing color contacts and dying my hair. I figured even if he thought he saw me, he might think twice because those two distinct features would be different. So after I got myself together, I found a job across the country and moved. I decided to live in the human city and not align myself with any pack. Since I am human this was an easy assimilation. My pack offered to have their allies watch over me but I didn’t want to bring any wolf attention to myself. So I hired my own private security team and worked. Things were going well until he showed up somehow. I was so scared that when Emma said to come with her I just got on the plane without asking any questions. Now I’m here in Southern California and I’m sure he will figure that out soon and come and find me” I said. I was finally able to voice my fears and secrets to Devin. I don’t think he’d leave; but I do understand that I haven’t been forthcoming with information. I stand there looking at him waiting for him to respond.

Devin POV

I listened intently as Anna told me everything. I did my best to hold Lee back as every time he hears about this creep he tries to push through to the surface. I totally understand why Anna went through these lengths to conceal herself. Honestly, it was a very smart move. If she possesses these distinct features then she would be easily spotted in the crowd. My beautiful mate has been in flight mode for the past few years and it’s heartbreaking to see. I pulled her onto my lap to breathe in her scent. I need to figure out a way to end this all for her. We will never be able to start our life if this man is still on the loose. “Anna,” I said while lifting her head to face me, “I understand why you would go through extreme lengths to conceal yourself. It makes sense that you would be as cautious as possible. I do wish you told me sooner but it’s okay. I’m going to come up with a plan to end this once and for all so that this chapter of your life can finally be closed”. Anna didn’t say anything back but I could feel some of her anxiety ease through the bond. I’ll have to meet with Jason and Stephen regarding these rogues and now to put together a plan to find this man. I picked Anna up and laid her down on the bed. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close as I kissed the top of her forehead. She’s been through a lot today and I never got to tell her about the rogues. I don’t want to overwhelm her, so we will discuss it tomorrow. A few minutes later, I hear her breathing deeply and snoring lightly. I moved back slightly so I could admire her beauty. I always felt there was something off about her appearance but I didn’t guess it would be this. I mindlinked Jason and Steve to meet me in my office. I slowly got out of bed, making sure I didn't disturb her, and headed to my office to try and figure out all of this mess.

Jason and Steve were already in my office by the time I made it. I sat behind my desk and grabbed the glass and whiskey Jason was offering me. I poured myself a glass and took it down in one go. I savored the burn and then poured another glass. “Any updates?” I asked. “Since we killed them all we didn't have anyone to interrogate. We did scout outside of our borders to see if we caught the scent of more rogues. We didn’t find anything, so I think those guys were working alone. I’m concerned that the two girls they were referring to are Anna and Emma; but how would they know anything about them?” Jason finished. “I think I know,” Steve cut it, “Anna told Emma and I as we were pulling into the gates that we are in the same state as her old pack. Not just that, but this Alpha Marcus creep lives somewhere in California as well. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these rogues showed up here asking about two girls who showed up recently”. Steve is probably right. Either this Alpha Marcus knows that Anna is here or he’s grasping at straws sending people to every pack in the state. Either way I think we need to get in contact with her old pack to see if they have heard anything. “I think you’re right Steve. This can’t be a coincidence. Right now we need to make sure our border patrol is tight. Anna doesn’t leave this grounds without me or one of you plus two warriors. I’ll get the name of her old pack and once I do; Jason, I need you to get in contact with them to see if they have had any unusual behavior. Stephen make sure the warriors are training hard. We may be going to war soon and I need everyone to be prepared” I said. They both nodded and we finished up finalizing some other things before heading our separate ways. When I returned back to the room, Anna was still sleeping. I slipped in the bed next to her and looked at her while she slept. I tried my best to visualize how she looks with red hair and golden eyes. That’s such an odd combination but it feels like I know it from somewhere. I was lost in thought but soon realized that there were brown eyes staring back at me. “What are you thinking about?” Anna asked. “I’m trying to imagine what you look like with golden eyes and red hair,” I said. Anna gave a sad smile as a response. “Can I see your eyes?” I asked. Anna stared at me for a full minute saying nothing. I hope I didn’t cross a line but I really want to see who she truly is. Anna got up and went to the bathroom. “You pushed too much, you i***t," Lee said. “I wasn’t trying to push. I just wanted to see them, to see her. It’s something about golden eyes that is calling to me and I just figured if I saw them it would jog my memory”. “Well you better hope she looks at you at all. I can feel a lot of anxiety coming from her through the bond”. “Yeah, I feel it too. I hope she isn’t too upset”. “Well don’t just sit here hoping on hope. Go and talk to her, or I can do it for you”. “No, no. I’m going”. I walked to the bathroom door and before I could knock Anna opened the door and there she was without her contacts; eyes are golden as the sun. I was speechless. Her eyes were the most beautiful thing that I’ve ever seen. They were golden with lighter flecks of yellow. They held passion and intensity; I literally felt hotter under her gaze. No wonder she chose to hide them away; I don’t even want anyone else to see them. Her eyes held life and promise. They were a special gift that she decided to share with me and I am forever grateful. “You are stunning. These eyes are so gorgeous, I'm definitely glad you have the contacts. I don’t think I have the strength to fight off everyone male that sees you” I said. Anna blushed which added even more warmth and contrast to her eyes. “You’re the first person to see them since I went into hiding. These were my trademark back in my old pack. They called me Sunny” Anna said. Sunny was definitely a fitting nickname. “One day soon, you’ll never have to hide them again. I’m going to make sure of it” I said. I pulled Anna close and pressed a kiss to her lips. There was an instantaneous spark. This kiss felt different, more heated, more powerful. I picked her up and carried her to the bed. I laid her down and wasted no time pulling off her clothes. She looked like a goddess laying there naked before me. I started kissing her lips and moved down her body. I made no pit stops as my mission was to start at one pair of lips and end at another. Once I reached my goal I stuck my tongue between her folds. She was already wet, which fueled me. Anna nodded and got up to go to the bathroom and clean herself up a bit. A couple minutes later, the omegas came to drop off the food. Anna came out of the bathroom and grabbed one of my shirts to sleep in. She looked so sexy in my shirt; I had to restrain myself or she would never get any food tonight. I brought the food over to the bed and put on a movie for us to watch. After we finished, I cleared everything away and we cuddled while we finished the movie. Anna fell asleep before it was over but I was enjoying just having her in my arms. I turned off the TV and tried to get some sleep. I couldn’t get my mind to rest because I couldn’t stop thinking about her eyes. There’s something I read about eyes like those but I couldn’t remember what it was. I needed to go to the library and try and find that book.
