Ready or Not?

Anna has been sleeping for about 2 hours now. She passed out once we really got going. Thankfully she went and laid in the bedroom so Jason and I could speak freely. Jason was my brother’s Beta. He was out here visiting a neighboring pack. Thank goodness he hadn’t left yet. When I saw Anna in the club shaking like that I knew something bad must have happened. At first, I thought it was just a guy who tried to push up on her. I definitely didn’t think that Alpha that kidnapped her was back for another round. The fear in her eyes is something I had never seen from her. Her eyes were usually so full of light like they were shining like the sun. I wasn’t supposed to leave for a couple days but with Jason going today I figured it was safer to just leave now. Who knows what would have happened if we waited. “So who’s the Alpha that’s after her?” Jason said, pulling me from my thoughts. “I’m not sure. I just got that piece of information from her a couple days ago. I was trying not to pry too much” I said. I didn’t ask too many questions but just from the limited information I did get I knew this guy had to be a crazed Alpha. I’m not sure why he’s so obsessed with Anna though. She’s supposed to be just a human. Did this Alpha know something I didn’t? “Did you tell your family that you were coming home early and bringing a human guest with a crazed Alpha hot on her tail?” Jason asked, sounding a bit amused. “Well I just told him I’m bringing a friend with me. I kind of left out the human part and the part about her running for her life” I said, mischief evident in my voice. Jason shook his head at me. Everyone back home knows I’m known to cause a bit of trouble. My brother definitely doesn’t like when I keep things from him. It really wasn’t intentional. Our pack is going through some rough times and I know if I told him everything he wouldn’t let Anna come. Our pack was attacked 2 years ago. It happened right as I joined the psychology practice. I was going to drop everything and come home but my parents were very insistent that I stayed. The plan was always for me to go to school and get some experience helping humans so I can eventually come home and create a practice in the human town nearby. That way I can help humans and werewolves and add value to our pack. I was supposed to come home next year but we still have members who were struggling after the attack. I decided to come home early to help counsel the members. I’m secretly glad Anna is here. We are a great team and I could really use her help within the pack and in my future practice. I just have to convince her to stay. We only have less than an hour left until we land. After that, we have about an hour drive to the pack. I figured I’d let Anna rest all the way until we are about to land. I’m sure she’s exhausted from the past 24hrs. I really can’t imagine what she’s going through. I’m still wondering who this Alpha is and what his obsession is. It’s one thing to kidnap her, but to still be pursuing her years later to take her again. Clearly, this is deeper than a crush.

Anna POV

Emma woke me up and told me we were about to land. I was still a little groggy so I didn’t talk much. I was completely exhausted and was thankful for a few hours of sleep. Once we landed we were met with 3 black SUVs. Emma ushered me to the middle one where the not Uber driver (I need to get his name) climbed into the front seat and we sat in the back. I’m not sure who is in the 2 cars in front and back of us. As we drove I decided it was time to get some answers to my questions. I was so out of it I just went along with everything. “So we’re are we?” I asked, turning to Emma. “We are on the opposite side of the US. Our pack is about an hour outside of the human city” she said. “So are you very rich or are you royalty? I asked. Emma giggled and said “We are one of the wealthiest packs in the country, so I guess I’ll go with the very rich.” That seemed to make sense seeing how we flew on a decked out private plane and are now riding in one of the newest model SUV. Emma never walked with an air that certain rich people had so I would have never pegged her for being so. “Did you tell anyone I was coming?” I asked. I heard the guy in the front snort and Emma turned a little red. “I did tell my brother I was bringing a guest,” she started, “but I did leave out the human part and the Alpha being after you part.” I looked at her like she was crazy. How could she leave out those two important details? “Emma, I think you should have led with that information” I said. “I’ll tell him when we get there. My focus was on getting you out. My brother will be okay” she said. That got us another snort from the front. This guy must be a wolf. I couldn’t really tell at first but now I’m getting that scent that they all have. “And who might you two snickering snicks be?” I asked. “Jason is my brother's Beta. He’s the one who traveled with us and the one driving is Stephen; my brother’s Gamma” Emma said. “Pleased to meet you” they both said. “Yeah the feeling’s mutual” I mumbled. My anxiety levels were starting to pick back up again. I can’t bring trouble to Emma’s home. Furthermore, I don’t know how accepting they are to humans so they may just kick me out as soon as we arrive. I have enough money to get a place in town while I figure out my next move. Maybe I’ll need to leave the country in order to get away from Alpha Marcus. Emma squeezed my hand and said “Don’t worry everything will be fine. Please just trust me.” I did trust her. Ever since I showed up at the practice we have been great friends. She’s the only one I let get close to me. “I trust you” I said, giving a small smile. With that, we rode the rest of the way in silence. We soon reached the pack borders and I sat up a bit to see better. This pack was huge, definitely bigger than my old pack. There were several buildings, most of which I couldn’t make out. I was able to spot a school and a hospital. There was basketball courts, tennis courts, an Olympic size swimming pool, and what I’m sure is a massive training area. We drive by several neighborhoods full of houses and condos. We finally pulled up to a very gigantic building. This has to be the pack house. As we pulled up front Emma turned to me and asked “Are you ready?” “As I’ll ever be” I responded and started climbing out of the car.
