Anna POV Emma and I were sitting at the table as the omegas were setting it for everyone. I was still confused from her brother's mood swings. One minute he was super angry, then the next he was all sweet and charming. Talking about a sour patch kid. It was something about him that I couldn’t put my finger on. Emma was still sitting there stewing and mom king to herself. I decided to try and make sense of what happened before I walked in. “So what was all the yelling about Em” I asked. She turned to me with her face still set in a hard line. “Devin was mad that I didn’t tell him that you were human and technically on the run. I planned on explaining everything to him after we got settled but nooooo his little Alpha troupe just had to run their mouths first. Now he feels like I brought a ton of danger to our pack. I told him we weren’t followed or anything but he wouldn’t listen. He wanted me to clear everything with him first. When I told him I cleared it with Mom already he really blew up. That’s probably what you were hearing when you walked in. I mean I know we are still rebuilding from our last attack and he’s scared and worried about safety but come on…” I was staring at Emma trying to process the information I was just given. I wasn’t expecting to learn so much at one time. Thank goodness I’m a psychologist or I would have been overwhelmed. I now understood why he was so angry at least. I live through attacks at my old pack so I know how damaging it can be to the people. Sometimes it’s hard for people to move on when they lost loved ones in the worst way possible. Some people even leave the pack in search of new ones so they can try and forget. I remember having to help Alpha Josh through some dark nights after we were attacked when we were 15. He almost lost it and he wasn’t even Alpha yet. “He’s just being unreasonable” Emma said, pulling me from my thoughts. “I don’t think he is. I can understand where he’s coming from. I’ve lived through an attack or two so I know how hard those can be to deal with. Was it a bad attack?” I asked. “I don’t have all the details. I wasn’t here. It happened right when I was about to start the practice. I was going to come home but my parents insisted I stayed. The plan was always for me to practice psychology on humans for three years so I could be well versed in their issues. That way when I moved back home I could start another practice in the human city where I could have humans and werewolves. I cut the plan short by a year because the pack is still having a hard time coping. We lost a good amount of people. I couldn’t just sit idly by anymore. That’s why my leaving was sort of sudden. My people need me” Emma said. I finally was getting more pieces to the puzzle. Not only was Devin dealing with rebuilding a pack; his sister changed the plans and came home early, and brought home a human who’s on the run from an Alpha he knows nothing about. Yeah I’d be pissed at all parties involved too. Before I could say anything else, Jason and Stephen walked into the dining room. They took the seats right across from Emma and I. Emma was shooting them death glares and they were trying to avoid eye contact. Sitting back and assessing everything was really amusing. They all looked like kids who got called to the principal's office. I cleared my throat and addressed everyone “I think we got off on the wrong foot. I know my introduction to the group has not been a pleasant one. But I’m not here to cause any problems. I don’t want to bring any drama to your pack. I came from a pack myself, so I know how important safety is for everyone. So that’s why I’ll be leaving tomorrow. That way things can go back to normal” I said. “I don’t think that is necessary Lu……..Anna. Alpha Devin has calmed down and I’m sure he will be happy to accommodate you” Steve said. For some reason I believed him, but I had made up my mind. “That may be true, but I’m still leaving. I’ll tell Alpha Devin as much when he arrives” I said. Just then the air in the room electrified. I felt my whole body start to heat up. Jason and Steve was staring behind me; so I turned to see who let were looking at. I was met with a pair of beautiful (albeit angry) eyes. “I’ve arrived,” Alpha Devin said. Devin POV: As I walked into the dining room, I heard Anna say she planned on leaving. There was no one I was going to let that happen. I was trying to control Lee who was instantly angered by her words. “Mate can’t leave us. I won’t let her "" I know I know. I won’t let her leave”. As I continued walking into the room, Anna turned her beautiful eyes to me. My arousal came quickly. Now I had to hold Lee back for two reasons. The air felt charged and Anna was looking flushed at the sight of me. The bond must be affecting her too. After announcing my arrival I took my seat at the head of the table. Anna never took her eyes off of me and it had me shuffling in my seat a little. “Anna this is my mother Luna Corean” I started motioning to my mother who was standing at the opposite end of the table. “Yes, hello sweetheart. I’m sorry I can’t stay for lunch but I did want to come introduce myself to you” mom said. Anna found her voice and they exchanged pleasantries. Mom soon left but not before she told Anna that she’ll meet her for lunch tomorrow. She didn’t even give Anna a chance to reply. She just winked at me, turned on her heels, and floated out. “Well why don’t we start lunch. You all must be starving. We’ll hash everything else out after we’ve eaten," I said. Everyone silently agreed and started digging into the spread the omegas laid out for us. I pretty much stayed quiet while the four of them talked about Emma’s old practice and their patients. I was hanging on to all of Anna’s words. I didn’t know she was a psychologist too. There was a lot to learn about my mate. I was excited to hear all about her childhood and her hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, all of that had to wait until I found out the name of the Alpha bI needed to kill. I needed to keep my mate safe and if that included ripping the head of a crazy stalker Alpha then so be it. I cleared my throat and everyone turned their attention to me. “Now that we’ve eaten. Anna I want to apologize for my actions.I was upset earlier but I’ve calmed down” I said. Emma snorted ahd Jason held back a laugh. I glared at them both and continued “Anna why don’t you tell us exactly what happened between you and that Alpha. Remember no detail is too small”. I said. Everyone turned their attention Anna. Her face fell instantly. It was so silent in the room as we all waited for Anna to speak.
