Anna POV
I could not believe I was back in the state that holds all my best and worst memories. I went clear across the country for a reason. Normally, I would have just figured out a way to leave but things are complicated now. I’m mated to Devin. It’s not like I could just up and leave without him following me. I had to figure out a plan. I cannot be found again. Maybe I should tell Devin the truth about everything. I’m not sure if that’ll help me somehow but it’s probably my last chance. In the meantime, no leaving the pact. This is probably my safest place I can be until I can figure something else out. I hadn’t realized I was pacing until Steve stepped into my path and I walked right into him. That brought me out of my thoughts. Emma came up to me too and hugged me. “I had no clue Anna. I would have never brought you here had I known” she said. “It’s not your fault. How could you have known? And if it wasn’t for you, I would have been kidnapped. You saved me Em. Plus you brought me to my mate. I’m forever grateful” I said, hugging her tighter. We stayed like that for another minute before getting back in the car and heading towards the packhouse. Once we got there, things were eerily quiet. I was about to ask Steve what was wrong when his eyes glazed over and then he yelled “ROGUES!!!” I didn’t have time to register the weight of the situation because Steve was yelling at Emma to take me to the safe room. Emma grabbed my hand and pulled me through the packhouse to the kitchen pantry where she pressed some hidden button and pushed me inside. The door closed behind us without a sound and I stood there taking everything in. Safe room was a simple term as the thing was more of an apartment. There was a desk with a small surveillance system, a couch, a bedroom for two double beds, a kitchenette, and a small bathroom. “We expanded the safe room a bit, just in case we end up in here for a while” Emma said, reading my mind. I nodded and went to sit on the couch. I kicked my shoes off and got comfortable. I prayed to the goddess and whoever else may be listening that everything will be okay.
Devin POV
After Anna and Emma left I hopped in the shower. My mind wandered to last night and how I sufficiently dined on my mate. “She liked me better,” Lee said, looking smug. I blocked him out while laughing to myself. She enjoyed us both which made me very happy. I finally found my mate and I can’t wait to take her in many different ways. Especially here in this shower. I got dressed contemplating telling Emma to go one without Anna. I had some things I’d love to do to her instead. Lee fought through the block to show his agreement with the idea. I, ultimately, decided against it since Anna really needs clothes and I know picking out a practice is important to Emma. I headed to my office to get some work done. I was looking over the paperwork from the various businesses we own in the human city. They were doing well and it allows my pack to live and/or work in the city if they so choose. That’s why I wanted Emma to provide therapy to mainly humans first so she could be versed in their issues. They approach things differently than us, so I wanted her to understand the way they think. There was a knock at the door, and I could tell it was Jason. “Come in,” I said. Jason walked in and took the seat in front of my desk. “Sup Alpha” he started, “how was your date last night?” I instantly started smiling just thinking about it. “The date went very well,” I said. He gave me a sly smile and asked “So you marked her?” “No, I don’t think she’s ready for that yet. I did…other things” I said with a smirk. “Oh really? And how does the Luna taste?” he asked. If this was anyone else I would have punched him in the face for asking me that; but since I grew up with Jason I knew he didn’t mean anything by asking me this. “Divine! And I can’t wait to taste her again and again” I said. “I’m happy for you bro. I’m glad you found your mate. This is the happiest I’ve seen you in a long time” he said. This was the happiest I’ve felt in a long time. “Yeah I know. I’m glad I found her too!” I said. With that out the way, we began discussing work. We didn’t finish for a couple hours and were going to go work out until Anna got back. While I went to my room to get changed, I mindlinked Stephen to check in. He said they were finishing up at the mall and had one more stop to make. I cut the link figuring I could get about an hour or so workout in. Jason joined me in the gym and we completed a high intensity workout of cardio and heavy weight lifting. After we finished, we headed to the kitchen to grab some food. It was in between lunch and dinner but we always had sandwiches, wraps, salads, and fruit that people could grab and eat. Halfway through the meal, Steve mindlinked that Anna was freaking out. He said she was crying and pacing. I asked him where they were and he didn’t answer at first. I asked him again and he said they were inside the borders and heading for the packhouse. I got up to meet them out front so I could figure out what happened. With Anna not being marked, I can’t feel her emotions that well. I was standing out front waiting for them when Jason mindlinked me that there were rogues spotted at the south border. I turned around and ran towards the back of the house to where the rogues were spotted. I mindlinked Steve to tell him to have Emma take Anna to the safe room and to join us. Then I sent out a pack wide mindlink to everyone to tell them rogues were spotted on the south border and to take cover. When I got to the border, Jason and 5 other warriors were already there. They were staring down 10 rogues who were in front of us. “Do you think this is all of them?” I asked Jason through the link. “I hope so. 10 we can easily take but if it’s 20 or 30 we’ll definitely need backup” he said. I agreed with him. I can take out 3-4 rogues by myself; but if there’s more lurking in the shadows then we’d need help and fast. I mindlinked my head warrior to make sure all the borders were protected, I needed 10 warriors to head my way and I needed 10 to stand guard at the packhouse. I turned my attention back to the rogues who had yet to shift or make a move. Clearly I was going to have to talk first. Hopefully we can just get them to leave without bloodshed. “What are you all doing on my land?” I asked. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” One of them said, “we aren’t here to fight. We are just looking for information” he finished. “What information are you looking for? I asked in a menacing tone. “We just want to know if two women turned up here recently,” he said. I looked confused wondering why rogues would be wanting to know that. “No two women rogues didn’t show up here. But even if they had; what makes you think I’d hand them over to you?” I asked taking a step forward. “That’s a fair point. So there’s no way of knowing if you’re lying or not” the vocal one said, taking a step forward as well. Steve and the other warriors had arrived and I was hoping they realized they were outnumbered. “I suggest you take me at my word and leave with your life” I said, doing my best to hold Lee back. I didn’t like how arrogant this rogue guy was thinking he could come onto my land and question me. “We could leave…or we could make an example out of you and a message to the other packs that when we are sent there they better give us what we want.” As soon as he finished the rogues started shifting and jumping on my men. The head rogue shifted along with me and we started circling each other as the fights went on around us. Out the corner of my eye, I see a rogue jumping out the bushes to my left. I easily swatted him down with my paw and when he hit the ground I bit off his neck. Another one from the right attacked, biting my hind leg. I yelped in pain but was able to turn and jump on him digging my claws into his chest as I did. I ripped his whole middle section to shreds leaving him to bleed out on the ground. I ended up getting knocked into a tree as the head rogue ran into me. I was hurt but I got up quick enough to miss his next attack. I pounced on him and we ended up rolling down a small hill. We were fighting the whole way down but I ended up on top. I bit down on his throat with all I had and ripped it out. His body laid there lifeless as his blood dripped from my mouth. I quickly ran back to we’re everyone else was fighting to see it was all over with. I shifted back and walked over to Jason and Steve. “Were we able to save any for an interrogation?” I asked. “No, they just kept coming at us as if they knew we’d try to get more information,” Steve said. I nodded and looked around. None of my men were hurt too bad so I was thankful for that. “I got a report from the other borders. No rogues have been spotted so I think we are good for now” Jason said. “Okay good. Steve you run ahead and do a full sweep of the packhouse to make sure everything is good. Once it’s clear, wait another 15 minutes before you get Anna and Emma out of the safe room. I won’t be far behind, I just want to make sure we get this cleaned up. Send Anna up to my room when you get her; I’m going to take a shower so Anna doesn’t see me like this.
After I ensured the cleanup was almost done, I headed back to the packhouse. Steve had just finished the sweep, meeting me at the front door to let me know it was all clear. I sent a mindlink out to the whole pack letting them know it was safe. I had implemented a take cover protocol since we got attacked a couple years ago. Everyone knew what to do and where to go based on the type of attack we were facing. It seemed to work well when put to the actual test. I headed straight up to my room to take a shower to wash all this blood and dirt off of me. I know Anna grew up around werewolves but she never spoke on living through any wars or attacks. I didn’t want her seeing me covered in blood just in case. I was still a little bruised but Lee was working on healing me, so I know I’ll be fine by tomorrow. When I finished showering, I went to the closet to get dressed. I put on a pair of black shorts and a black T-shirt. I noticed new clothes hanging up. This must be the clothes Anna bought today. The omegas must have brought them up while I was in the shower. I walked out the closet and noticed a bag on the bed. It must be her toiletries that they couldn’t put up because I was in the shower. I grabbed the bag and walked to the bathroom to put everything away. The last thing I pulled out the bag was hair dye and color contacts. They were the same color of Anna’s eyes and her hair color. I was so confused. Has she been hiding herself this whole time? I heard Anna enter the room. I came out to meet her with the hair dye and contacts in my hand. “Care to explain?” I asked.
