Malakai folded his arms over his chest, watching the scene like he was curious to see how it would end.
Elani and Ruben walked up to us then. The moment Elani saw the woman, her face darkened. I was relieved to see them both okay. But where was Barrister Louie?
“What is she doing here?” Elani asked, glaring at the dark-haired woman.
“She said something happened to her job,” I replied.
“Alpha, please…”
Her eyes darted to Malakai, tears swimming in them. She completely ignored me, like I wasn’t enough to ask her questions. That alone seemed to set Malakai off.
