Look at me,” I urged, shifting to the side she’d turned her face toward. “I promise you—whatever you saw... it wasn’t what it looked like.” I felt like a complete i***t for letting it happen at all, for not kicking Gianna out the second she stepped into my office. Camilla shook her head, tears sliding down her cheeks as she turned further away. She trembled, and when I reached for her, she swatted my hand aside. “Believe me, nothing happened with Gianna. I was telling her to leave when you walked in. She sat on my lap the second she saw you.” I raked my fingers through my hair, frustration burning in my chest. I couldn’t blame her for reacting this way. After everything Arthur had done to her, I should be the last man to ever make her feel any doubt. O
