Camilla’s POV
The hug must have been an impulse, because the moment Ruben realized what he was doing, he pulled away quickly, smiling sheepishly. “I’m just happy you’re back safely.”
That melted something deep inside me, and without thinking, I pulled him back for another quick hug. It was brief, but I still felt Malakai’s glare burning into my back from inside the bus.
“I’m really happy to be back too,” I said honestly. Ruben and I had grown closer, and I genuinely enjoyed his company these days. Malakai, of course, hated every second of it.
When he stepped off the bus, Ruben immediately bowed a little. “Welcome, Alpha.”
Malakai gave him a single curt nod before turning to me, letting me check him over to be sure he was fit before he left with Ezra and Logan for a hushed discussion.
