Chapter 1: Worthless Camilla's POV "Grip tight, my sweetling!" The sharp slap that followed his words stung through my skin. I whimpered and obeyed, fingers tightening around the cold pole. "Mmm... what a sweet thing you are." Arthur’s grip around my waist tightened so hard I almost winced. A pleasure-filled groan tore from his throat, proof of how much he was enjoying himself. For me? I just wanted it over. I bit down on my lip to stop any sound from escaping. The pain of his hold was nothing compared to the throbbing ache between my thighs. Or the burning in my wrist. One last, brutal thrust... and Arthur collapsed on my back, panting like a wild dog. His weight was heavy, but I didn’t dare complain. I just held on so we wouldn’t both fall, while he caught his breath. Otherwise, I’d be punished. Again. "Get everywhere cleaned up. Immediately," he ordered once he could straighten up, still panting from ravaging me. "Then join the other Omegas and make sure the meals are perfect. This alliance is too important. We can’t afford unsatisfied guests." He zipped up, picked his shirt from the bed—same color as his short, curly auburn hair, and flung it over his lean frame. "You understand everything I said?" "Yes." I flexed my wrist, trying to ease the pain from my skin pressing too hard against the metal bracelet around it. His grey eyes swept over my naked body in one careless glance, making my heart lurch. He licked his lips and smirked, then turned and walked out, pausing only to blow a kiss. The moment the brown mahogany door clicked shut behind him, I exhaled. Another session survived. I headed into the bathroom and took a quick hot shower, hoping to ease the ache pulsing through every inch of me. A painkiller helped too. Now I was ready to stop a moving train. Not really—but I could try, before it crushed me. My fate was sealed. And there was no escaping it. Or was there? The rest of the day passed in a blur. I ignored the pain between my legs as I cleaned, cooked, and organized the hall where tonight’s guests would be hosted. By the time I returned to the house, I was sweating badly and my whole body felt too heavy. If I had any choice, I’d crawl into bed and sleep for seven years. Perhaps I could at least sit down for a few minutes before going back to work. I walked into the living room and my steps slowed for a moment. Then my face lit up with a smile. "Audrey." She turned to me, and my smile grew. "You didn’t say you were coming." Her peculiar brown eyes rolled a little too dramatically. So Audrey. "Thought I could visit my own sister anytime," she said. "Especially one who gave me an organ." I forced a chuckle. "Of course. I'm just surprised to see you, Drey." Without wasting another moment, I crossed the space between us and hugged her tightly. She returned it stiffly, but I didn’t mind. I breathed in her strong vanilla scent. “You’re sticky,” she complained. “Oh, I’m so sorry." I immediately pulled away with a laugh. "I’ve been working. How are Mom and Dad?” “Living their best life,” she replied, her eyes darting around like she was searching for someone. “Guess what!” She turned to me again with a wide grin, her blonde hair nearly brushing my face but I leaned back in time. “Tell me. I hate guesses,” I said, trying to match her excitement. “Dad got me a car to celebrate meeting my wolf!” she squealed, twirling in joy. “Oh my... you’ve met your wolf.” She’d just turned nineteen last week. “Yeah! A beta wolf. And my dream car. Isn’t that just wonderful?” She flung her hand in the air, and I almost tasted her pride. “Of course it is. I’m really happy for you.” I wasn't as bubbly as her, but I meant it. An Alpha could give birth to another Alpha or a Beta, but most often it was an Alpha. And even Betas were almost as strong as Alphas. “Are you sure?” I frowned. “You know Dad did nothing for you when you got yours, so I just wanted to be sure you’re not upset.” she hastily explained. Yet she still rubbed it in. But I wasn’t angry. I was used to her. “Why would I be upset about your happiness, Drey? You’re my sister.” And the one Father truly loved. I was just the cursed Omega. The girl with a dormant wolf, almost wolfless. Feared, despised… a product of infidelity. “You have nothing to worry about.” Her gaze kept wandering, and before I could ask what, or who she was searching for, a shrieky voice rang out. “Camilla! What are you doing standing there gossiping like a jobless woman?!” Typical Luna Caroline. Always yelling like she’d escaped an asylum. She stepped out from the left wing of the house, wearing enough makeup to paint a wall. I wasn’t worthy of the Luna title yet, so she still held it—until I was. If I ever would be. “Everything’s almost ready,” I replied calmly, “and I was just taking a short break.” “A short break,” she scoffed. “Like you’ve been climbing a mountain. I don’t know why the goddess cursed my darling son with such a lazy bone. Rush to the kitchen immediately and make sure everything is perfect.” She waved me off like a fly. “Yes, ma’am.” I gave a mocking bow, shot Audrey a small nod, and turned to leave. She was right. I was a misfortune that happened to her son. Betrothed at fifteen with a foolish crush, only to turn nineteen and have the goddess seal our fate. I was lucky he was so responsible that he didn’t defy his late father’s wish—or fate—and reject someone as worthless as me. “Oh, my darling, you visited us!” Caroline’s voice shifted to a sugary sweetness. It was nauseating. I bet she truly wished Audrey was her daughter-in-law instead of me. “Yes, Luna Caroline. I’ve missed your faces,” Audrey replied softly. I imagined her charming smile; the one everyone loved to be blessed with. In the kitchen, pots bubbled with the scent of herbs and spices. Some omegas forced tight smiles as I entered, others shifted away to avoid me. I ignored them and jumped into work, offering help where I could. Caroline soon walked in again, giving sharp instructions on how to move everything to the hall. By the time I got a moment to breathe, evening had come. My body ached. All I wanted was a hot bath and maybe to steal a little sleep before the event started. I knew Arthur might still ask me to serve. Which meant night rest was far from guaranteed. I looked around but didn’t see Audrey again. She must have gone off to meet friends or gotten glued to her phone somewhere. I pushed open the bedroom door. And froze. A gasp escaped me before my palm flew to my mouth. Arthur paused mid-thrust, pulling out of the woman. Another mistress. My eyes stung, though I didn’t want them to. He turned, and the fake shock on his face made my stomach churn. The woman beneath him quickly sat up and lowered her head. “I…I’m sorry,” she stammered. I wanted to tell her she didn’t need to apologize. This wasn’t new. But the ache in my chest never grew old. “No. I’m the one sorry for the interruption. I’ll just leave you both to finish.” A lump had already lodged in my throat, choking my breath. I was going to shut the door, but Arthur stopped me. “No. Stay.” My heart slammed. All the color drained from my skin. “Fun time’s over,” he said to the brunette, who dressed in a rush and scurried out. “Arthur… please…” I was too tired for whatever he wanted. My core still hurt. If he touched me again, I might collapse. Or momentarily lose the ability to walk. “Shh,” he hushed me, placing a finger over his lips. “Didn’t think you’d be back so soon. I couldn’t wait,” he added, like it excused everything. “Don’t worry, she means nothing. You’re the one who matters, sweetling.” Then his eyes lowered to his hard length. “Now come take care of this. No hand feel better than yours.
