“Yes, I did. I didn’t know where you were and there was smoke everywhere. I wasn’t just going to leave and not check to see if you were injured or something.” “I wasn’t in my room.” “Yeah, I just figured that out.” My voice dripped with sarcasm. “I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to fight over this right now. We’ve got to get you to safety. Maybe to see a doctor or a healer or something.” “You’re just going to leave this?” “I don’t see much choice.” He shrugged. Someone else was behind him. They told him to take me and go. It was almost as if the conversation had been planned, but it seemed too natural. The woman who was calling was fighting and was in the process of changing back to her human form. There was no way that it could have been planned through all of the smoke and chaos. “
