Dark Before Dawn

She awoke to a new smell in the cottage. Very strong and soothing. It was like heaven, she breathed it in. Fresh mint leaves mixed with a punch of ocean breeze. It is okay Serenity. He won't hurt us. Amira, who...she trailed off as she opened her eyes and looked around. Morning sunshine. His voice was a low deep timber. Alpha Thaddeus what are you doing here? Her heart was out of control. The look of you says a lot Serenity. His eyes were steel blue. Why was he making her feel this way? What? Her head was spinning with his scent and masculinity. She was going to pass out, she could feel it. No you don't. he wrapped his arms around her just as she was loosing her ability to stand. You? She was barely there. Yes, me, mate. His voice low in a passive growl. She lost the battle and collapsed in his arms. He carried her to her room. She lay there before him. Why had he told her. Not like this. He wanted it to be special. He wanted her to make her choice first. He didn't want her thinking it was all just so he could keep her and abuse her more. He hated his family for what they did to her. He had turned eighteen a year ago and held off on ascending because he wasn't sure what to do about his love for her. All he had wanted was to take her away from the horrors she had experienced so he looked for a way. That's when he discovered the packs dirty secrets. He swore he'd find a way to change her stars. And now he had that way. But once she was the Blood Moons Alpha would she want him? He just wasn't sure. He placed the plates on the table, he had decided breakfast was what they needed to bridge the gap. She needed to eat. She had shifted her first time and with that came hunger and weakness. He came there only to help her through the first day after. He had no intentions in telling her. Now here he was, she knew, and s**t was going to get tougher. He had to be straight with her from now on. Just as he set the coffee carafe on the table she was there, standing in front of him. Why? Her eyes blazed with anger. Please sit. Obviously we need to talk. Oh you better believe it Thad we need to talk. Sit. He used his Alpha voice just enough to warn her. You may think you can run this show, but if you don't explain yourself then we are going to have issues. She was serious as a heart attack and he could feel her strength vibrating just under the surface. I don't want to do this like this. His shoulders fell and he sighed. How else would it go? Did you even think about my feelings? Of course I did. Please sit down so we can talk, and you need to eat. I'll sit, I'll even eat because I'm so hungry, but you need to talk. I need to know why. If you'll sit and eat I will tell you everything you want to know, and more than likely more than you want. Fine. She sat down as he poured the coffee and juice for them both. I'm listening. She picked up her fork. He picked up his coffee and took a drink. Serenity what do you know about your bloodline? She hadn't expected a question. You know I don't have much insight into my heritage. I know when my mother died it was the hardest day of my life, and when I was taken it got worse. He gaze became accusing. Yes, I know my family has done nothing but hurt you and traumatize you. I hate them for that, at the gathering I have made arrangements for everyone involved to be held accountable in front of the council. They won't get away with what they've done, and it will cost a lot of lives. So what you want me to ascend, claim the throne and merge the Blood Moon pack with the Midnight Run pack to mend everything between them. She was being sarcastic. No, would you just listen please. Continue. I have to know. She smirked. My plans only have your packs best in mind. I cannot make you love me, nor will I try. For a second she saw pain in his eyes. What do you expect to gain from this Alpha? She softened slightly. Nothing. I only want for you to be happy again. His posture told her he wasn't lying. Serenity. She heard Amira say. What? She responded easily enough. He wants to make this right. Can you please give him a chance to talk at least. He's our mate. The moon goddess doesn't always give second chances at love and life. I will listen, but you weren't here. I've always been here hunny, just not like I am now. We will talk more after Amira. I need to know these things. Of course. I am here. Go on. She spoke softly to him. Are you sure you want to know? It's not good, not in any way. What more can life throw me. I've been beaten, thrown away, and abused my whole life. I think I deserve the truth. Yes, you do.
