Chapter 18 The last thing Gideon saw when he left the penthouse was Emma’s soft eyes. She hadn’t pressed any more after his confession, and in fact, they’d spent much of the afternoon wound around each other on the couch. Except for a single errand, neither had said a word about her going out to look for Jesse. He had actually been glad of the company. He didn’t know why he had broken. Exhaustion, maybe. Fear they were going to be too late. Despair. Maybe he just needed to do something, or have Emma tell him this wasn’t his fault.
