Jesse stared at the space Marcus Brooker had occupied for a long beat after he left before turning to Emma. He didn’t quite know what to think about this meeting. And he couldn’t shake the feeling this wouldn’t be their last meeting. But that raised one very important question. Did he want to see Marcus again?
“That was certainly interesting, wasn’t it?”
“Is that what we’re calling it?” She chewed on her lower lip, preoccupied by thoughts he imagined closely matched his. “It almost felt like I’d walked into the middle of the wrong movie. I don’t get him at all.”
“Were you sensing anything dangerous from him?”
“Dangerous? No. He’s…” Her voice trailed off, her gaze straying to the door. “Sad.”
“Sad?” Jesse frowned. “What do you mean?”
