Ella As soon as Kane and I left the hall, the room shifted, like the calm before glass shatters. I walked standing beside Kane, his hand warm at my lower back, when I heard Kiara calling out loudly to Paige. Suddenly , I heard a brittle, broken laugh. It rang across the banquet hall and curled under my skin. I turned. Paige wasn’t lying on the floor anymore. She had somehow woken up and she was smiling.
