The Hill Side

Chapter 1

I guess I need to start off by telling you a little about myself. My name is Jake and I have six sisters and five brothers, yea there was 12 of us. Mom and Dad wasn't around much so we were always at our grandmother's house, but I'm not complaining that woman was the best, see granny didn't come from much but she always made sure us kids were taken care of. Granny and Paw bought a 32 acre forrest pretty much back before they had kids of her own and made it into the place us kids grew up. What we like to call the Hillside. It might not look like much to some but to us it was the whole world, that we couldn't wait to explore. I'm the oldest of the kids so me and my oldest sister Jess looked after all the other kids and we would always go exploring in the woods, see and granny never minded because she knew we wouldn't go far. This place was almost like a dream land, she had apple trees, peach trees, pear trees and who knows what else growing all the way down the road to her house. That's were we spent most of our time. Granny also had 3 fields full of every vegetable you can think of and us kids always liked to help keep them up. I know I have old mentioned Paw one time and that's because he passed when I was about 5 and Granny never remarried. She always said he was the only man for her and she didn't need to go looking for one whe she had all of us kids to keep her company. Granny didn't just keep me and my brothers and sisters, she also had three of my cousins Elroy he was the same age as me Louis she was the same age as Jess and their baby sister Maggie that stayed with her too. We were never lonely, how could we be with 15 kids at the table, and granny always made sure every one of us knew how much she loved us.
