Peter became agonized as Ava's blood filled the whole area. Icy waves flowed down his nerves, trembling in fear at the thought that he might have murdered someone. He hurriedly placed his ear on her chest and was relieved at the faint heartbeats he could hear.
“To the hospital, now!” Peter screamed, carried Ava in his hand and rushed out of the mall. He drove at the highest speed to the hospital. His heart raced as he glanced at Ava through the mirror.
He never knew he actually cared for Ava this greatly, he could feel a sharp pain searing through his heart as he watched her in such a critical condition.
They got to the hospital not quite long after, and Ava was rushed to the ward immediately.
Peter paced the reception and prayed that Ava would make it out alive.
The theater door opened, and a doctor walked out.
“How's she? Is she all right?” Peter asked, his voice was shaking.
“She had lost too much blood and would need a blood transfusion now. I will have to go and attend to her.” The doctor said and walked away.
“Why are you so concerned about her? I thought you did not love her?” Tabitha asked suspiciously.
“Can't you see I am on the verge of facing a jail term? Besides, she is still my wife, I only want a divorce, not her death.” Peter bellowed, ensuring that no one heard him, so he wouldn't be accused of murder. He buried his head in his arms, stomping his feet on the ground nervously.
“Alright, no problem. I know what to do.” Said Matilda with a hiss as she walked out of the reception, even though Peter's last statement made her furious.
When she was sure she is out of Peter's sight, she made a diversion and headed towards the doctor's office.
She opened the door suddenly, giving the doctor a jolt.
“What do you want?” The doctor asked in shock as she walked into the office. Matilda sat on the desk, stared straight into the doctor's eyes and folded her arms.
“The lady we brought in, she was just a stranger we encountered on the road. My husband and I won't be responsible for her bills, so you can as well discontinue the treatment.” She mumbled, maintaining a straight gaze with the doctor. The doctor's eyes popped out, and his mouth dropped in shock.
“What?”
“That's all I came to say to you. If you will be responsible for her bills, then you can as well continue the treatment then.” She continued, giving him a sore gaze as she stood up from the desk. She headed towards the door, and suddenly stopped.
“Doctor Williams, the only son of the Clark's family. You better not mess with me.” She mumbled with a smirk. The doctor staggered, wondering how Matilda knew about him.
Matilda slammed the door and walked back to the reception.
“Let's go home!” She said immediately she got back to Peter's side.
“What? I should wait till she wakes up,” Peter argued, his heart racing as he awaited his wife's consciousness.
“Why should we wait? We’ve done our part by ensuring her well-being and I have also paid for her treatment. Remember you were about to divorce her,” Matilda mumbled, staring warmly into Lincoln's eyes.
“And I am pregnant with your child. Do you want to lose me? You know that means you will be throwing away your only chance of working with AirDroid.” She continued, carefully choosing words that could alter Peter's thinking faculty, so he could go home with her. She wrapped her hand around Peter and whispered some sweet words into his ears, stressing on the contract which she had promised to help her win.
“You are right. First things first, and thank you for paying the treatment, I will refund you later. I guess it's time to finalize my divorce with her.” Peter said, searching through his pockets, before letting out a sigh.
“Are you looking for this? I couldn't possibly forget to bring them along.” Matilda smirked, she took out the divorce papers with a bitter smile plastered on her face.
“Since she is still unconscious, we can make a thumbprint of her finger there, it still counts as her signature,” she said with a shrug. Peter took in a deep breath and nodded his head.
They both went inside and pressed Ava's finger on the ink and then on the paper, while they both smiled at each other, kissing each other right in front of Ava, who lay unconsciously. Peter felt a sharp pain in his heart as he stared at Ava one last time.
‘Did I really make the best decision by divorcing her?’ He thought within himself as they walked out of the hospital.
“I know you guys shared some moments together, so it's hard to see her in such a condition, but trust me, she will be fine.” Matilda smiled. She patted Peter's back and pecked him on the cheeks.
Peter diverted his eyes from the road and glanced at Matilda,
“Thank you, Matilda.” He said with a smile.
Matilda smiled back at him, and looked at the other side of the road.
She wore a bitter smile, happy that she had taken the best decision.
‘Whatever happens to you is your fate, if you are not completely eradicated, I won't fully enjoy my life with Peter.’ she thought inwardly, maintaining a relaxed posture as a sense of contentment warmed her heart.
They arrived at Peter's house in due time and they both went into the master bedroom.
“Let me shower, so we can fully enjoy each other.” Peter kissed her on the lips, and sniffed at her warm scent.
He unbuttoned his chest, revealing his muscular and well built body. Matilda swallowed hard, she placed her hand on his chest, and blushed.
“I can't wait to have you all over me.” She whispered at him. Peter smiled and took off his pants, wrapped a towel around his waist and headed towards the bathroom.
Minutes later, Peter's phone rang, and Matilda glanced at the caller ID, smirked before picking up the call.
“From crescent hospital, due to the disconnection of her treatment, I regret to inform you that the lady you brought in just passed away.” A feminine voice said over the phone.
A wide smile formed on Matilda's lips, and she felt some warmth in her chest.
“Since her identity is unknown, we can't trace any of her relatives. Please cremate her body, and disperse her ashes into the sea, I will cover the expenses for that.”
