“It’s tomorrow, Avery. Do you have a bride yet?” The words screeched into Avery's eardrums from the other side of the phone. He clenched his fists and his eyes squinted dark.
“You will meet with her very soon.” He replied coldly, tapping his feet on the ground. His cold blue eyes glanced around quickly and he couldn't wait to get done with his father over the phone.
“I will be waiting. I hope you know what's at stake if you fail to provide a wife by 10am tomorrow.” His father uttered and ended the call.
Avery scoffed and panted heavily. His veins popped out of his neck and his eyes darkened even more, dampening his mood.
He slid his phone to his pocket and marched towards two men that stood some metres away from him.
One of the men, who was Avery's assistant, couldn't bear to take a look into the cold eyes of the man matching towards him.
“Was this what you promised me? Didn't you tell me she will be here, and where is she now?” Avery screamed, his face reddened with anger.
“I am sorry sir…but she just called and said that she wouldn't be able to make it and that we should cancel the deal.” The assistant stuttered, despite his big, muscular nature, he suddenly began to feel so small in front of the angered Avery.
“She backed out?” Avery scoffed, shaking his head in surprise while biting his lower lip in the process.
“I am afraid, yes, sir.” The assistant replied, swallowing hard.
“Who the hell does she take me for? I am sure it's Micheal that's behind all of these.” He raged, punching his hand into his fist.
Despite being a son to the richest man in town, and the heir to a multi-billion-dollar enterprise, Avery still couldn't escape the cold eyes of bloggers lurking around. Rumors about him being impotent or probably being into men had surfaced on the internet over the past few weeks.
“If you want to remain as my heir, then you have to provide a wife before the next board meeting, or else, everything goes to Micheal.” His father had warned him. Luckily, he had found a lady who would be his contracted wife in front of his father, but the lady had suddenly backed out.
Just as his mind raced for a solution, his eyes caught the sight of a lady coming from afar. She looked so dejected and weepy. Avery constricted his eyes and furrowed his brows, something about the lady pulled his attention, she seemed so familiar.
“Sir…the board meeting is tomorrow, we have to...”
“Just keep quiet!” Avery fumed, giving the assistant a cold stare. He tapped his fingers on the car before letting out a sigh.
“First, do all you can to ensure her father's company crashes and he rots in jail. That's what she gets for messing with me.” He ordered, his eyes giving out a cold aura.
At thirty-two, Avery was easily one of the most handsome men in the city, his tall figure towered due to his broad shoulders, he has a streamlined jaw, and a captivating smile. He has a pair of ocean-blue eyeballs, and slightly raised eyebrows.
Just then, his phone rang, and he grudgingly pulled it out of his pockets, wondering who could be calling.
His eyes darkened as he checked the caller ID. Hesitating for a while, he placed the phone close to his ear after connecting the call.
“Hi brother. How are you?” Micheal's sarcastic tone oozed from the other end of the call, causing Avery to wear a wide smirk on his face.
“I am not in the mood for your pretense, just come out clean!” Avery fired at him.
“Don't misunderstand me brother, I just want to know how you are faring since the deadline is tomorrow. Have you gotten a bride yet?” Micheal asked with a mocking tone, that angered Avery even more.
Avery gritted his teeth and clenched his fists tightly around the phone.
“You don't need to force it brother, some things do not just work in our favor. It's my turn to take over the family's company, just let it go. Your so-called bride just left you also, it only means that you are not destined to be the heir… ” Micheal mocked, rolling into a huge laughter after he made the statement.
“She wouldn't have backed out if you had not influenced her decision…” Avery scoffed, squinted his eyes and smirked.
“Trust me Micheal, you will pay for interfering in my matters. And just wait, you are in for a surprise tomorrow.” With that being said, Avery ended the call, slid the phone back to his pocket and sighed. His eyes rested on the girl coming in his direction. He could now get a clearer picture of her. She looked so disheveled in her clothes, and her hair was messy and unkempt. His eyes scanned all over her body and he couldn't seem to take his eyes off her battered body.
“She looks so familiar.” Avery said to himself, his brows furrowed and his expression became colder but with curiosity.
He suddenly seemed to remember something as he bit his lower lips, he smirked and uttered the word ‘interesting’
