Grimm pov 6 months later
Pink. Pink everywhere. He couldn't believe he was surrounded by so much pink. He didn't want to be here, but honestly, he had no choice. He was losing his ever-loving mind. He must be. That was the only explanation for his behavior in the last few months. He needed answers. Grimm needed Nicole.
The club was unhappy with his behavior toward Nicole on that fateful night six months ago, particularly Axel. At the end of the day, Grimm wasn’t punished as Nicole wasn’t his old lady, and he didn’t technically step out on her. Grimm made the mistake of telling his president this information with a smug smirk on his face and paid for it dearly. He then spent the next two months on a s**t detail.
The run the prez sent him on was normally done by prospects and a few enforcers, but Reaper informed him that the run needed his expertise on the matter. Axel turned out to be right as the motorcycle club wasn't happy that their MC was trying to end their profitable partnership. Axel was trying to end the club’s extracurricular activities and become a legitimate club now that he had a baby on the way.
Grimm understood, but it was a pain for the rest of the club to end these partnerships. While some of the clubs complained, most fell in line as the club had several businesses that kept them in the black and their old ladies were happy with the change. It meant less danger and less likely for their man to be locked up.
The long time away from home unfortunately made him think and he wasn’t happy with his thoughts. He went on a self-destructive spiral that lasted the first few months he was away from the clubhouses He remembered why he was set off in the spiral in the first place.
Flashback
He put down the phone after texting Nicole to stop by whenever she got off and his phone started ringing. The number was unknown, but Grimm picked it up.
“Hello?”
“Hudson?” The voice of his mother came through. Grimm’s knees gave out and he fell to the ground.
“Hudson, are you okay sweetie?” His mother asked.
“Why?—why?” He huffed out his voice barely audible. He wanted so badly to hang up the phone but his body was frozen.
“Well sweetie, my parole is coming up and I was hoping you could make a statement,” his mother's chipper voice continued as he sat frozen in terror. Just like he was when he was eight years old and his mother entered the room.
“Hudson,” her tone changed as his mother said his name, and he physically flinched. “My lawyer said if you make a statement it could help me.” He hung up. God that woman still made him flinch just from hearing his real name. That’s why no one knew it, not even Axel. He stood up and started rifling through his room until he found it. A bottle of whiskey. Grimm unscrewed the cap put the lid to his mouth and drank heavily. It burned going down, but he didn’t stop until the bottle was gone. He tossed the bottle in the trash and heard his phone buzz. Grimm almost didn’t pick it up, but he looked. Nicole’s name flashed against the screen and his better judgment he went out of his room and headed to the bar. He had to meet her, had to break it off. Couldn’t do this anymore.
Flashback over
Axel had him leave on the run two days later and while he was away he spent his time at the MC drowning himself in booze and women. He left his phone at the clubhouse as he didn’t want to risk another phone call.
Grimm received a phone call at the two-month mark from Reaper that he had to reign it in otherwise he would be busted down to a prospect and that woke him up. He couldn’t lose his cut. It was all he had. Grimm cut down on his drinking, but unfortunately, that brought back the nightmares. The nightmares of his mother. Those came back in full force ever since that day he heard her voice. The fear he felt every time his five-year-old self heard her car pull up in the driveway. It never mattered where he hid, his mother found him. She found him and pulled him out of his hiding place and vented his frustrations out on him. It went on for years. The bruises were explained away as him being a rough and tumble boy. Then as he became a preteen, due to him being a bully picking fights. His father was in the military and always on deployments. Grimm learned to hate him early from his mother. Then as a teen due to his absence and not seeing the bruises when he was around.
His father surprised them one day and that changed everything. Grimm was fourteen when his father walked in on a particularly brutal night. He was home two weeks earlier than expected. She had broken one of his ribs. His father came in and threw her off of him. His father tried defending his mother at first and that was all Grimm needed to justify his hate toward his father. Eventually, his father called the cops, and his mother was taken away. Grimm had packed a bag and crashed with a friend until he could get into the army. Hell, he didn’t want to be like his dad, but he didn’t even have a high school degree to his name.
He never talked to his parents again. Until his mother's call.
He finished out the run mostly sober and came home feeling guilty about his treatment of Nicole. Grimm had always ended their… situation before he went to another woman and he never flaunted the other woman. Nicole always knew he slept with other women, but she never mentioned it. He could always see the heartbreak in her eyes, at first, then a lot of emotion faded from her eyes when she looked at him. Maybe that is why he broke it off more and more. Refused to commit. Nah, he was just an ass. He was broken. He hated women. Hell dealer pick.
Grimm was back for about a month when he started to actively seek out Nicole. In the beginning, Grimm had hoped to see her around town or the bar. That's how the two of them always started up again. Nicole would be shopping or drinking with Briar and the two of them ended up in his bed.
It was after two weeks of casually looking for Nicole that Grimm decided to actively seek her out. He went to the bar and started asking around. Those he asked didn't respond or just shook their head and walked away. He texted her a million times but he got no response. Grimm wanted to stop by her place, but he realized that he had no idea where she lived. Grimm knew absolutely nothing about her. He didn't know about her family, he didn't know where she worked, where she lived, or who her friends were. Hell, he didn’t even know her favorite color. He knew nothing about the women he spent so much time with over the years. He was floored. Grimm had no idea that he put so much effort into keeping Nicole at arm's length.
That's how he found himself here, at Axel’s baby shower surrounded by all things pink. Nicole would be here for her best friend's baby shower. Grimm just knew it. That was the type of person Nicole was. Loving. Giving. The opposite of everything he was and that drew him in. She gave, while he took. God, he was an ass.
Grimm shook his thoughts away as he was drinking his second beer of the afternoon. He watched Axel and Briar gleefully open present after present for their daughter. He just couldn't believe this was happening. Grimm was happy that his buddy was having a girl, he just hated how it made his skin crawl. The feeling that it made him trapped as he watched all of his friends have kids surrounding them. It was an alien feeling, how quickly life changed. How quickly a person changes. Axel stood ten feet from him with a goofy grin on his face and a laughing Briar in his arms. It still amazed Grimm that this was the same man that tortured men to death. He still looked around for Nicole, but he didn’t see her. Grimm had hoped Nicole would be here, but since she wasn't it looked like he was going to have to ask Briar.
“I wouldn't do it, brother,” Wrench said from beside him. Grimm looked to his Sergeant of Arms. Wrench was about eight years older than him and was one of the brothers who embraced the changes to the club happily.
“Do what?”
“Ask about Nicole,” Wrench said and took a sip of his beer.
“I wasn't going to,” he responded with a shrug and Wrench looked at him suspiciously.
“Good, Prez doesn't need your drama today, especially since you were the one that drove her away.”
“What?” Grimm asked shocked. “What do you mean? Away?”
“Yeah brother, she's gone. Has been for months.” wrench dropped the bomb on him and left. Left? Nicole left him? How could she do that? After everything.
